Yellow diamond engagement ring?

Thank you very much!
I didn’t realize you were referring to cut as a colloquial term.
I understand what you are saying.

The GIA’s I look at have clarity, polish and symmetry.

What is your take on dark zones? That seems to be important not having many. I know GIA rejects the diamond if it has like half dark zones which is uneven color but if it’s a little less than half they call it even. Hmmm don’t know if I worded this correctly.

Also isn’t it best to stay away from dingy looking stones?

Thank you again!
Yes, I apologize for not being more clear the first time. When using general terms misunderstandings can happen :) Yes, evenness of color is one factor that impacts value, appearance and quality of a colored diamond, so I would stay away from one with dark patches, especially in a color which is easier to find good options in like yellow diamonds. On the other hand, if you were looking for an intense/vivid pink or green diamond you would have to make some compromises. I would definitely stay away from dingy looking stones.

Thank you! I'm still trying to develop my own system of judging how good a yellow diamond is. I used to think a fancy vivd is definitely better than a fancy intense due to the higher price point. But after my last trip to Tiffany, I think it can be a preference thing because each stone has a different type/shade of color.
I completely agree with you. Ideally any diamond should be evaluated in person, but I feel this is even more important with colored diamonds. It’s also nice to see the diamond in different lighting conditions, and Tiffany will let you bring them outside to view them in natural light as well.

Wow I didn't know I can bring pieces outside. I'll definitely ask next time. Even in different parts of the store that had different lighting, the two diamonds I saw showed up differently. Colored diamonds are so much fun but so hard to choose!

The last time I went was pre-COVID, but I was able to take my options outside to decide. Of course the SA came with me. I’m sure the security guard came as well, but unobtrusively so I did not notice.

I have a fancy intense yellow diamond engagement ring in a 5 stone setting. And I never wear it anymore. For no reason other than I now have a sizeable eternity band that I adore and wear daily. Yellow diamonds come in all varieties and You should get one if you find one that makes your heart sing.

I am a proponent of getting what you love.
Plus, with Tiffany, you don’t have to worry about getting a misrepresented stone.
Did you decide what setting you will be getting?

I totally agree! Yellow is my favorite color so it's hard to choose. I think they are all very pretty!

Do you not like to stack them together?

No it looks quite bad (to me). My eternity band is almost 5 carats and my engagement ring is around 1.5 (1 ct center with .5 sides). It is very disproportionate. One day ill get it reset to something else.

That's one of the reasons I wanted a Tiffany one other than I adore the brand since I was little. I do not have much knowledge when it comes to jewelry so I'd rather spend more and know for sure that I have a good stone.

I really like the solitaire with a thin gold band look for a simple day to day look.

Good luck.
It sounds super pretty and yet the yellow stone makes a statement.

Oh I see what you mean! Then I think your eternity band is probably overpowering your engagement ring. I'd love to see your engagement ring if you want to share pictures!! It sounds like a size that I really like.

I tried to take photos but I kept getting a hard glare this time of the day so the diamond doesn’t look great. But here it is!
