Would you purchase a display item?

What if the item you've been salivating after is the last in store? Would you buy it? And it's been displayed and touched by other customers? Tell me.
In a heartbeat. It's been touched by other customers? That's it? No damage? I don't understand the problem. Clean it if you like when you get it home but, if it's the last and something you really want, then I wouldn't pass it up for this reason. You have no idea whether "new" bags have been touched or not.

Would and did. Last fall I had my heart set on an MK Black Hamilton with the gold hardware. There was only one in the store, which was the one on the display. So I snapped it up and didn't think twice about it:)

Yes. I would prefer one that is still wrapped up from the back, but if there is no other choice and the bag is in god condition, I'll buy it. I even bought one LV bag that was the last one in the store and on display. If I am comfortable that there is no issue with the bag and I can clean it when I get it home, then I'll do it.

I don't mind if it has been touched. I won't ask for a discount either. However if it appears to be damaged as a result of being handled a lot I would definitely ask for a discount before buying

Interesting question.

I've never heard of anyone getting a discount for a display bag unless there was actual evidence of wear, I'd certainly ask and prefer if they had another. For the money 'we' usually spend on bags, a discount of about 10% is not going to make me buy a defective bag because I could buy a near perfect bag pre-loved or in a sale for much less.

If I notice anything amiss with a bag, there would be no way, not even for discount, not if it were the last, unless we are talking what would happen naturally in 5 mins anyway. Even the odd scratch is not acceptable on a really expensive exotic bag, this has happened to me twice on bags that I was head over heels with. I've rather waited and ordered another, this is one reason why it's sometimes best to go at the beginning of the season.

Not buying the bag on display can work against you though. SAs will often put out the best of a batch, the best 'pattern' of python, the best lined-up pattern, a print where the picture is the most centred etc. If I examine a display piece and it's perfect I'd rather buy that than a less-than piece from the back. That happened to me with a croc wallet. The display piece had even, symmetrical scales back and front whereas the 2 from the back had smaller scales on the front than the back and the display piece had been under lock and key in a glass display cabinet for 2 days.

It would depend on the bag's condition, price and how much of a discount I'd get. If there are obvious signs of wear I'd want a huge discount; otherwise I might as well buy second hand.

Ok here's the thing. It's a hot pink Givenchy Antigona. So yeah limited edition. Only one in the store and on display. I want it so bad and dream of it every day.
It's €1625(USD$2205) and that's a lot.
If there are no signs of wear then I'd get it. Otherwise I'm off to Chanel and get a GST €1790(USD$2433) not much different in price but I'll definitely get one from the back. And because the economy here in Spain is quite bad, it's less likely to get a returned item.
Oh and the store with the Givenchy is selling the bag slightly higher than it is. I guess cos it's the only shop. 😊

Hell yes!! Provided it's not all beat up, and you can get a discount. I'd be on it like white on rice.

Really? Thanks. The color is so gorgeous. I'll just have to pray there are no flaws on the bag. And no I don't think I'll get a discount. It's different here in Europe. My mom bought a Miu Miu bag and a Ferragamo shoe and they took it straight from the display. And when I asked for a new one, they insisted that the item is brand new and just arrived a few days. My mom didn't want to be fussy so she bought them anyway.
