I had decided to plunk down some serious dough on a black leather Gucci Pelham at Neimans and I asked for a fresh one. I was told, not very pleasantly, it was the only one and that they're all the same anyway. I walked. I felt that for that amount of money, I should: 1) be treated nicely; 2) get a fresh product; 3) be offered the choice of maybe waiting for a fresh one.

I came back the next day, worked with a different, nicer SA. Bought a Dior Cannage instead. Ha! And I saved money. Guess it wasn't meant to be.

okay ladies and gents....with all the sales around the corner, I have a question.....DO YOU BUY THE DISPLAY BAG?????

The bag I have wanted for a few months now is going on sale in a few days....it'll be 30 % off..... which will still come to over $2300.

The only bag left is the display, which of course, "hasn't been on the floor long" and "is in excellent condition".(why do all the sa's say that????):thinkin:

Anyway, I kind of think it is crazy to spend 2300 on a display bag, yet I am so tempted to tell her to set it aside for me since it is on sale.

I would love to hear your thoughts...

I think if you are saving 30% then it is worth it, you did say it was in excellent condition right? If it is not an easy find then I say go for it. I know myself when I have a bag on my mind and I want it and an opportunity comes around and especially a sale I would have to get it.

Does this bag normally go on sale or is the 30% off because it is the floor model? If it is on sale anyway, then I might have to call every store to see if they have another one... if not go for it!!!!

Good luck

You've answered your own question! :graucho:

Honestly, I think no-one likes the display piece. But there are times when we really want something and this is our only chance. If the display piece is damaged or marked, then I would say no way, but as you've said, its in good condition, so why not go for it!

Is this the only shop where you can purchase this bag for a sale price?

If the display bag has any scratches or anything, why not ask the manager for a 5-10% discount since its the last bag??? Ive done it before, and you could save even more money on the bag you really want!

Yes it is still alot to pay for a "display" bag but if you really want it try not to think about the money-just think about finally owning the bag!!!

I would if I wanted it for a long time and there were no other bags avail any place else..

Because it is the display bag try and get some more off..

Depends on the bag/context. I almost always buy the displays of certain designer brands since the boutique may stock only one of some bags/brands. I don't mind at all, since usually they are not that friendly about people trying on or handling the bags unless you are known to the SAs, it means the display bags are not used that much. Of my last five bag purchases I think maybe only one has not been the display, just because they don't have multiples, and in one case (my Chloe Marcie), they did have multiples, but all the multiples are on display. :) I can safely say it makes no difference, ime. But, it depends on the store and brand, I guess. If it were somewhere high traffic with lots of people trying and handling the bag it might be different.

I usually NEVER buy display bags!!!! I am usually a LV girl and has to have a brand new never touch bag made in France.
The bag I want is a light colored valentino in NYC of all places!!!:nogood:

I don't see a problem with it personally if the bag is in excellent/new condition. At that price range, I would think it hasn't been handled as much except by the SA's placing it on display and for sure, the inside should be like new. Most of the time, the display bags in that price range aren't for sale, so it more than likely they will offer you a 10% courtesy for buying it. I remember a little over a year ago looking at a display bag in Saks and the SA said it was the only one left and she offered 10% off that bag or would try to find another one from another store.

Good luck in your decision!

If it is in good condition and no damage including fading from the

"lights" and you cannot find it any place else and your heart will

sink if you don't have it,, then the answer is, well you will know what the
