Oh Jeez, why not??? I mean, the display bag isn't going to look any worse than the bag will look after you have it for 3-6 months anyway.

agreed dear....but at least i'll be my dirt!!!!

I think I am gonna pass on this one....I hate imaging every tom dick and harry fondle my 2500 valentino bag!!!!

Plus, Valentino's sale is coming soon and their discount is 40%:graucho:

I guess I definitely won't want Dick fondling my bag! Hahahaha! I'm so naughty! I didn't realize you were the OP or else I wouldn't have been so harsh in my answer!!!

Normally I'd prefer a fresh one that hasn't been handled. Unless it's the last one and on sale.
But last bag I bought, I asked for a fresh one. She brough one out and it was kind of wrinkled; I decided I liked the display one better so I took it.

I usually NEVER buy display bags!!!! I am usually a LV girl and has to have a brand new never touch bag made in France.
The bag I want is a light colored valentino in NYC of all places!!!:nogood:

Oh, I think LV is different about this. I buy mostly Bal and Chloe, and my local authorized dealers of Bal only stock one piece in each style/color, so buying the display bag is no big deal. My local Chloe boutique may have more like 1-3 pieces depending on the style, so the bag you see on the shelf is usually the one you get with those brands. I think it's not like this with LV, right? They actually have dedicated display bags like, I don't know, jewelery at Tiffany, right? I 'm not familiar with their boutiques, but Valentino may be more on the Chloe/Bal way. If so, you can also be assured that they don't really like people to be coming in and trying on/touching the bags unless they are clearly a serious customer. Both my local Chloe boutique and the department stores here that sell Bals change their displays every couple of days so no bag is left sitting exposed to the same light etc. too long. But, I get that this may seem weird if you are used to buying from LV boutiques. :flowers:

LOL....U weren't harsh just honest...I don't believe I am gonna pass this baby up, but when I was in saks(on 5th ave ny) a few weeks ago it was mobbed and this bag was just out for everyone to play with....if i was 1k I would just get it and clean it up good, but the fact that it'll be 2500 with tax bothers me. That is a lot to spend on a fondled bag!!!! anyway, I have a feeling I will be able to score one in a month or so on ebay or the valentino sale....wish we luck!!!!

If the display bag has any scratches or anything, why not ask the manager for a 5-10% discount since its the last bag??? Ive done it before, and you could save even more money on the bag you really want!

Yes it is still alot to pay for a "display" bag but if you really want it try not to think about the money-just think about finally owning the bag!!!

I agree with this. Just negotiate it a little more - SA's know that no one really prefers a display bag and might be willing to go down another 10% or more to make the sale. That would knock the price down around $2,000, which is far more reasonable for a display.

Also, of course the condition of the bag comes into play as well. If it looks great, no problem. If it already looks worn and used, I would probably pass.

ETA: Just saw your above post^ .... Good luck!!! Please let us know how it works out!!!

okay ladies and gents....with all the sales around the corner, I have a question.....DO YOU BUY THE DISPLAY BAG?????

The bag I have wanted for a few months now is going on sale in a few days....it'll be 30 % off..... which will still come to over $2300.

The only bag left is the display, which of course, "hasn't been on the floor long" and "is in excellent condition".(why do all the sa's say that????):thinkin:

Anyway, I kind of think it is crazy to spend 2300 on a display bag, yet I am so tempted to tell her to set it aside for me since it is on sale.

I would love to hear your thoughts...

I would be skeptical, not only because it's a display bag but because of what you pointed out above. Is the word "sale" what's tempting you the most? If you think it's crazy to spend $2300 on a display bag, then it's still crazy even if it's on sale, kwim? After all, what you take home is the bag, not the sale...

Yes, if it was a bag I really wanted I would. But I would ask for a discount!
Most of the bags might have been touched by someone at some point if you buy them in a store.

Hello. Thanks for replying. If in the US, I would ask for a discount. But I'm in Madrid now, and the only one they have IS the one on display. Haha! I'll just have to inspect the conditions before buying if I really want the bag.

If I really wanted it and it was the last one and wasn't damaged/grubby I would buy it.

Just because it comes out of the back doesn't mean it's never been handled or tried on, every time I go to LV or Coach I see people examining bags (from the back) and deciding not to buy them.

I've said in LV stores a couple of times that I'm not buying today, I just want to try it on and if I like it I'll put it on my wish list for my birthday or whatever, and the SA brought me out a new one rather than mess up the display.

If I am purchasing locally, then no. I will wait for a new piece to arrive. If I am purchasing in Europe, I will inspect the bag carefully because the VAT refunds make any purchases in Europe really affordable.
