When you are buying a bag at Saks, NM, Nordstrom, etc... do you usually buy the bag that's sitting out or do you ask for another one from the back? I've never thought about it before, just bought the bag that's out. However, another post got me thinking. What do you do?
^That's a good question. Usually people go for the display bags because it's all they think they have in stock. Interesting post. Can't wait to see what others think
I always check to see if they have another piece in the storeroom. Usually, I'll only buy the one that's on display if that's the only one left, and if it's in perfect condition.
I've only once bought the bag that was on display because that was all they had. All the other times, the SA says she will get a new one from the storeroom- I don't even have to ask.
I'm so glad I read another post that got me thinking about this because I recently bought a bag that was the display model. This is the 1st time I've bought a high end bag from a dept store in person so I thought it was all they had. My other bags were bought from boutiques (I was always just automatically given a new bag) or online. The SA didn't even offer me a different bag from the back. I think I'm going to call and see if I can exchange mine for a new "untouched" one since I haven't used it out yet.
I normally ask for another one in the back (b/c that's the way i was raised, to go for the good stuff first haha, thanks mom!) but i won't be too picky and ask them to send me a new one if that's the last one left. If there's damage on it then i probably wouldn't buy it, but if it were limited edition and it was the last one left and had the damage, i'd consider it.
I ask for a new one from the storage. The only time this was impossible (I wonder why???) was when I sent my DH to pick up a Balenciaga for me and they gave him the display one, with discolorations. I returned it.
If they have a new "fresh" one, I will ask to have that. If the only one available is the one on display, then I will purchase it, but I will give it a very good look to make sure there is no fading or marks on it.
I do not mind display bags, especially if there's a lovely patina or it's nicely softened from all the fondling. I once specifically asked to purchase a leather agenda that was for display only. It was so beautifully burnished. The 2 or 3 times I've asked for a new bag (all boxed) from the stockroom, I found the bag's leather was overly dry/dull and one time it was even defective!
You do have the right to go back and inspect their new bags from the stockroom and I don't believe they only have the display. Why display if there's no stock left?
I would ask for a fresh one....especially if a bag has been displayed in a window. The leather will fade even after a day or two in the sun and that wouldn't be good.
yeah, I would ask for a new one. Learning from what the SA at LV boutique usually do ... a display is a display. we have pay the money and deserve the best inventory that they have =)
as far as i know, if u buy display model, its always worth to ask abt discount. many people had touched it, tried on.. so its not as perfect as from the stockroom. doesnt hurt to ask
