I didn't realize this thread was so old. But I just voted so I may as well say, yes! My vintage LV was like new, no issues or smells. My father took a look at it and said, "You mean it's actually vintage?" He couldn't believe it. So if you can find one in great condition, go for it.

I'm actually interested in buying one cheap to restore, as well. I love watching restoration videos on YouTube, it's amazing what a little TLC will do.

I would and I have. I'm pretty knowledgeable about LV to begin with, so I trust that I'll know if it's authentic or not. Plus, I'm really picky about whether it's in good condition or not.

I bought my Noe preloved and recently had all of the vachetta replaced and it looks like a brand new bag. The canvas is still in excellent condition, so I went for it. It was worth it.

I just realised, after voting, that this thread is 13 years old. I wonder if I replied to it in the past. :hrmm: Definitely my answer now is YES, 100%. I have found so many amazing pieces pre-loved, pieces that I missed out on new from the brand or that were released as limited edition items or had been discontinued before I started buying LV.

In addition to that, with the current selection available from LV, the ever-increasing costs and seemingly declining quality, I am pretty confident that most if not all of my future purchases will be pre-loved.

I second all that you said....

No for me.
But I buy second hand NOTHING apart from houses...
Grateful there's a market for second hand stuff it means I have been able to get some money for stuff I no longer want rather than binning but I don't and won't buy second hand of anything.

I still regret selling a few limited edition items, and I would buy them back in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity.
I also went to LV corporate to view special order options for furniture last summer. I asked if they could do a special order of a discontinued Sprouse black and white graffiti on an oversized trunk. They didn’t seem to think so (said it would be an issue for the estate of sprouse), so some things are just not possible to obtain new.

In theory, I like the idea of buying secondhand. However, I wouldn’t want to spend a lot of money (I know “a lot” is extremely subjective) on anything showing considerable wear. Also, if I’m buying something secondhand, even if it is in excellent condition, I expect to get a significant discount from the retail price. So, since a lot of bags don’t seem to work that way (bags in excellent condition being sold at or above retail), I have avoided going the secondhand route.

I also find resellers extremely annoying so I don’t want to contribute to their financial gain. By resellers, I specifically mean people who buy things just so they can try to resell at a profit, not people who simply are selling items they’ve used for awhile and no longer enjoy.

My thoughts exactly. I would never buy from a blatant reseller. No matter how much I wanted an item, if I thought that the seller had bought it (or in many cases bought more than one!) specifically to resell at a massively inflated price point, I would never, ever indulge that. Unfortunately not everyone feels the same way and some are willing to buy from these people. It would make me very happy to see these people stuck with items they don't want themselves that they are unable to shift.

It seems that Sustainability and individuality are removing the stigma associated with secondhand shopping
:drinks: :drinks:
That's a really good thing. I guess if there's a stigma surrounding it, it's never affected me. I have had some truly amazing finds in the secondary market, both LV and otherwise. In fact rummaging in charity/thrift shops/antique stores is one of my favourite ways to spend a day!
