Would you pay this much for this bag?

I know there is a reseller on W18 st and they charge appx. $10 thousand for a brand new 30cm which is really unreasonable!! I would wait it out if you have a relationship with an SA!! I would buy a used bag if it were below retail? If they'll do without the tax... then consider it!

I live in Ohio, the land of horrible shopping. So I often travel to NY or Chicago for the day, buy a bunch of stuff and have them fed ex it to me in Ohio. Save tax $ and dont have to lug a bunch of stuff on the plane. Its a total WIN WIN
ReneH, I'm curious, will Hermes ship the items home for you in that instance?

Yep, I know Fisch for the Hip. She *used* to have more reasonable prices for her bags, and in fact I once bought a Rouge Vif Birkin that was brand new from her, for slightly under retail. I sold it because I didn't carry it too often--being bright red. But now I kind of wish I still had it, because I will never replace it for what I paid. I certainly won't buy from her anymore now that her prices are so much more expensive (and her staff is occasionally snooty, but that's really neither here nor there).
She usually does have NEW bags, though--only occasionally is she asking $10K for a used one, and I just think that's a little nuts. But she charges her consignors 50% so the bag owner is only getting $5K out of the deal. I can see why they wouldn't take less.

Phew -- I'm not the only one who noticed. I was in last week and after they buzzed me in (the guy looked annoyed that he had to let me in!), they completely ignored me! I was gazing at the H bags behind the counter, trying to see if I could catch a glimpse of a price tag and no one even asked me if I needed any help! And I think I was the only customer in the store!! The last few times I've been in there they've had a lot of the same bags, so if they're not moving quickly, you'd think they'd try to sell them to their customers?!?

Minnie, that's actually pretty standard for consignment shops here. But yeah, I think it's a lot too!

Abbyroad (cute name BTW), I have had similar experiences, so I just make them pay attention to me. T---, the owner of the store, knows me so she is always attentive, but that guy she has working there the last year or so is like you described all the time! I really only ever go in there to look at her dogs, now. Oh, and occasionally I like to go in just to look shocked at the price of a bag and then say, "that's over retail! and there's a (whatever) at Wall Street/Madison/wherever right now for less than that!". :graucho:

If it's a bag you LOVE and you can afford to pay the money you should absolutely buy the bag! I will be the 1st person to tell you to get the bag at the store if you can. There is NOTHING like getting a bag at the store and paying retail!!!! BUT, who wants to wait, instant gratifications is a wonderful thing.

Yes, CDL, you've instantly gratified me 4 times in the last 6 weeks. For people like me - who are not *shoppers* - it's a very pleasant way to go.
Cyn, i love that ebene color, and if it's in good condition I think it's well priced. But i don't know the nyc market anymore.

Instant gratification is great BUT when you wait for a bag you really want... You appreciate it soo much and love it because you know you really wanted it if you waited a while!! Thats the true test if you love the bag, if you are willing to wait!!
But instant gratification is also good!! They're both good!!
Actually anything involving HERMES is all good !!!

Hee hee! You are SUCH an enabler! (which in this case might be a good thing, since it is H, after all!)
I strive to someday be able to be like *Carol* and be that instantly gratified so often! LOL I tend to be more of a "shopper", and I enjoy the process, but even I will admit that it occasionally gets a little tiresome having to jump through hoops to buy a purse. I guess what it comes down to with the Ebene bag is that I'm just not convinced that even a pristine preowned bag is really worth that much money. (Especially with another B on its way to me.)

Must go buy Lotto ticket!

edited because we posted at the same time:
