Why Goldman Sachs Believes Coach's (COH) Turnaround Is Alienating Consumers

One thing is for sure. The constant sales that Department stores are having on this new merchandise is definitely not helping Coach establish its new image. Where I live there was the Bloomingdales event (25% off if you bought enough), the Macys sale (25% off), the Bon Ton sale (30% off). That was just in September, the month of the release of this supposedly new plan to upscale lol. When these bags start getting a bit dated and tired it will be even worse. :p:cool:

I totally agree with you! It's honestly a joke at this point!

Looking at past history too, Coach has never lasted any length of time with any of their new concepts (at least over the years I've been shopping with them), so I am skeptical at best now! As far as full price goes, though, I must admit I'm more of a bargain shopper and have learned the hard way over time that Coach bags are not worth anywhere near retail price, so it's hard for me to change my own current mindset that I am ONLY going to buy them on sale or at the outlet. I have too many bags, and at this point, I need to worry about that, so I'm not wasting even more money by buying more at full price. I wasted enough money on PCE price. At this point I'll only buy full price if I really, really love the item, and I can't live without it- that's few and far between now for me.

When raising some of my own concerns with people at various stores, I was told that their rebranding project would not be "complete" before spring 2015. Maybe that's one reason the dept stores are still getting away with discounting. We'll see if Coach lasts till spring with their new venture! Not trying to be Negative Nancy, but I've been burned too many times. :shrugs:

Like you, I've been burned by buying something at FP that was "guaranteed to sell out" only to find truckloads at the outlet a few months later. Some of the stuff I paid FP for has even been remade for the outlet. I can't believe that Vevers bags won't make it to the outlet until a year or so passes and it is proven.

As mentioned above my guess is that they will have alienated far too many customers by spring that their policies won't matter. Even on this forum there have been several people that have paid FP assuming they could not get a discount only to find out they could go to a department store to get a discount on the same bag. Plus there appears to be large quantities of the current bags based on the fact you can find them all over the place, so there will definitely be a large amount leftover for the outlets (or whatever venue they want to discount them at).

I totally agree with you. :smile1: My Balenciagas hold their value give or take for YEARS. I can't even get my Coach bags to hold their retail value for a DAY. :roflmfao::roflmfao:

And Coach is always coming up with some future date where "our new policy will be in effect". Meh. I see no difference in Coach whatsoever, except that they are more desperate now. I went ahead and got price adjustments etc, but my time is money and I should not have to treat the experience of buying a Coach bag like I am at a Marrakesh flea Market where only the best negotiating gets a fair price.

I agree, there will be a lot of this fall line that will end up at the outlets, especially the rhyders and the crosbys. :smile1::cool:

I agree. I don't even listen to my Coach SAs or managers when they start talking about "guaranteed to sell out", or "limited production". If I buy a bag its because I really like the style not because of any SA hype and lies. When Coach starts acting like Chanel with wait lists and limited production THEN I might listen to talk of "limited production" etc. :p:cool:

Even after the limited edition Barbie doll sold out, they showed up at Toys R Us months later.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Stuart Vevers came from Mulberry, right? And their brand went downhill because of the changes made there, yes? So he is now at Coach and doing the exact same thing as he did at Mulberry?

Um..........

He's the creative director. He shouldn't be the one making the decisions about policy.
