I always feel I overpay with Coach and that is the problem. I should feel that my bags hold their value and that I am not the only one paying full price.
But....I loved the Dakotahs so much that I went ahead and bought the teal one at full price. I got the other ones at 25% off.
I am willing to buy what I love and that is it. I actually am buying less than I used to, but I bought it all at once so at least Coach is getting a decent chunk of money out of me up front.
Seriously though, most of the fall line will be in the SAS and will end up at the outlets and clearanced at the dept. stores. This is not going to help Coach change perceptions any as the average consumer will not know the difference between the Vevers line and any other line that gets dumped at a discount by Coach.![]()

So far every store swears that SV stuff will NOT be on the SAS, so my guess whatever is left over will end up at the outlet. In any event, I bet some will end up on dept store sales. A few of the bags that are supposed to be so limited appear to be stocked pretty well across Coach and the dept stores...or at least people aren't jumping at fp.
I hate to say this, but there are very few Coach bags that hold their value. If that really is your expectation with Coach you will be disappointed time and time again.
This! In a few months there will be another hot new bag and anything that is left will be relegated to the discount shelf. CoachHAVE to control their production levels if they are ever going to overcome this.
I don't expect my Coach bags to hold their value really, I was just wishing. That is why I rarely pay full price. But to me time is money and I don't have the time to do outlet stalking to get a past season bag at a discount, so I rely on getting the bags at 25% off one way or another.
I agree that reducing production is the only way Coach will upgrade is discount bargain profile.
Yep! Buy what you love and when you feel comfortable doing so! It doesn't matter as long as you're comfortable with it.I personally have a ONE Coach full price fall bag limit or ban, whatever you want to call it, so I just reached that with the last purchase since they played hard ball regarding the F&F at Bloomies (bag wasn't released yet). I'm going to do my very best to stick with it. If they knock my socks off, I won't stick with it, and I admit that, so we'll see how it goes.

The rhyder 33 in the light blue and red are sold out. So those two bags are a success.
It seems like a poor marketing strategy to not advertise which bags are limited edition. In the past, I've been told that there were only a few of some style left in JAX, then a month after I bought one of the supposedly last few, there were 100s at the outlets and on FOS. So I don't know if I would believe Coach if they said it was a limited edition, unless it was numbered like the Snoopy bags. Even then, Coach has been known to remake the same style later on, like all the Lindseys on FOS. And that darn hula dancer fob I paid full price for - there seems to be an endless supply - it's been on FOS off and on for over a year.Yes, those two rhyders were more limited in production and more in demand. (and had nicer leather lol) I wish Coach had limited production of some of the other Vevers styles as well. It would help them with their quest to upgrade their image.

A lot of people have said this. I don't know why Coach doesn't make things in plus sizes, but I think it would make sense that they would limit their sizes for now to see how well they sell before adding more sizes. I'm wondering if they didn't make very much inventory at all in order to test the market.
It does seem to me that when I look at coats in the outlet (which are the only clothes they have there), the extra large and the extra small are the last ones to sell.

I still have the perception that even if I miss out on something like the teal Dakotah, there will be other bags in teal or other Dakotahs that will be discounted somewhere.

If Coach wants to be like the designer brands, they should make the Dakotah a lasting style. It would make more sense to make a limited quantity every year, maybe changing the colors, and try to establish it as an iconic Coach look, but never selling at the outlets.I totally agree that at some point some of the new Vevers line that is so called "limited edition" will be re-produced but it will be too late and the demand will be gone. They will end up at the outlets.
As for the Dakotah, the department stores are carrying the black Dakotah, so that one will definitely go on sale and on clearance in the stores that don't sell out. The Dakotah is not for everyone anymore than a motorcycle jacket is for everyone. There will be some stores that will not sell out of Dakotahs and will put them on sale.
As for the teal, my guess is that that is not even limited edition but is going to go to Asia somewhere and end up at the outlets next season. Since I am not an outlet person, I am not going to guess about that and wait, and decided to get the bag now to complete my Dakotah collection.
And as for Coach's marketing well we all know that that is hit or miss and seems to not be to any plan.
How can you be iconic if you don't keep any style around long enough to become a tradition?

In the past, they had the classics available year after year, but they weren't promoted. Most buyers couldn't see them in the stores so I bet they didn't sell well. By contrast, if you go into an LV store, there will be a section for the new stuff, but the basic designs they've made for years are a major part of the store and are the best selling products. I don't see any designer brand that doesn't have some of the same styles year after year as a major part of their product line. Coach doesn't do this, and I think that is one of the things that is keeping them from becoming a designer label. How can you be iconic if you don't keep any style around long enough to become a tradition?
I agree with you on this. Why the Classics are not sold in all stores and promoted, along with other top selling designs over the years (like bringing back Sophia, Phoebe, etc) and just switching them up with new seasonal colors, along with new designs from time to time is beyond me.
