Why do u spend thousands on a bag?!

I finally took the plunge to 4 figure bags when I realized how much I was spending on 3 figure bags!! And I was sure that taking the plunge would "cure" me! I reasoned that i kept buying " lesser" bags because they were not what i really wanted. That at last, I would be satisfied! I choose a color that was neutral, a style that was classic and would never look dated. I picked a type that I knew from experience was my basic favorite. Then I traveled 300 miles to SAKS ( I live in a hick state that does not enen boast a REAL dept store) and I made a sales rep very happy :D And wow, the "rush"!! :roflmfao:
It lasted for about 2 months and I was hit on the head by a bag. Literally, LOL! I was in a store and a bag fell off the shelf on my head. I went to replace it and noted how soft it was..... And the bag **** was on the make again.

I'm not sure why I do it. I like quality and I like being unique (not many luxury items around here). I also like the "hunt" because the bags I like are not readily available in my

I can identify with this poster. I buy because it makes me happy. It's a rush. No doubt about it. An addiction. One thing for sure I don't buy to impress people because I doubt I know a person in my area who would even recognize a designer bag. You see lots of knock off LVs. I would not even consider buying an LV because no one here would guess it was genuine. I don't like the look of them anyway.

My thoughts exactly....it's because I work my butt off and if I want to treat myself, then this is how I do it. Also because I can.

Pay less and you wont have to work your butt off! Really I'm reading the most amazing things here. Don't get me wrong. It takes one to know one and I am as guilty as the rest of you. But I am not kidding myself. I know I'm an addict and my next stop is the ban site.
I think the most ridiculous rationalization I have read is the many who are planning to pass these bags down to their daughters!! :roflmfao: do you actually think they will be the least interested in those old bags?? Pha- leeze! They will have their own tastes and addictions. If you had your mothers old bag would you carry it? That is just the worst, the thinnest and the most pitiful excuse yet. Believe me they would much rather you put that money into an interest bearing account if you are really thinking of them!
The common factor here is we are never satisfied. That is the danger signal. If you want one high end quality bag and carry it happily for a decade you have not got a problem and are probably not even on this forum. I WISH I were that. I too have gone up and up on the price levels of my bags. Once it was bag after bag in the $30 range. Then I went to the $60-$80 range. A $300 bag was a one time only affair. Or so I told myself. Then I was buying $300 bags two at the time. Time to graduate to the 4 figure bags. I did! Again, a once in a lifetime purchase. And I have more than one. More than two And I have just read about a brand hitherto unknown to me. I understand it ranges $8000 and I can't wait to go to a site to see them. of course it would be just a once in a lifetime thing...
For the first time in my life I am having a cash crunch. And the reason is in my closet, and the floor, and hanging on doorknobs, and stuffed into every available space. My entire foyer closet has been outfitted with shelves to hold my "collection". That has become what I tend to think of the bags now. A collection. Many still have their tags. Before I use one I am already buying another. There is no way I could ever use all these bags. I realize I am sick. I don't know where exactly it got so out of control but I am going to look for help. I don't care what your income, you can break the bank with this fettish.
There is no end to it. And at some point it stops making you "happy". It
controls you. I hope you are not here yet. But let this be your wake-up call if you identify with what I have revealed. When I think of what I could have done with all that money it makes me sick :sick:I could have gone on an extended European vacation. Of course I would have needed a new bag before leaving...

If you had your mothers old bag would you carry it?
Personally I would, actually I do, I don't mind hand me downs clothes or accesories, if they are classic and of good quality. Would you not carry your mother's classic 70s-80's Chanel flap? Wouldn't you wear her fur coat or her pearls? Some things are forever so I justify the price.

Now spending a lot of money (the amount depends on individuals) on bad quality, trendy stuff, just because one has poor judgment, it is truly stupid.

Agree. Not bags but some of my vintage clothes passed down from my Mum are my absolute favourite items of clothing. And if she had designer bags to pass down to me I'd personally be over the moon.

I have to say I don't believe anyone who says their main reason/personal justification for buying a designer bag(s) is to pass it(them) down to their children though. It's a bonus of buying a bag of great quality, sure, but I think a secondary reason for buying a designer bag than personal want...

After all we all know that price doesn't (always) = quality . And it's entirely possible that the children in question may not be interested in designer bags and would be just as happy with an unbranded bag from their mum as with a Chanel.

ITA...
BTW expensive and quality items are not always designer.

Bespoke clothes shoes and accessories are not designer, but they worth a great deal.;)

Oh I know, just didn't phrase my post very well! Seeing as it won't let me edit it now I'll have to request that people replace the word 'designer' with 'expensive' when they read it

I enjoyed reading your post sunbyrd. My two cents worth are that it depends on the childs core values, money values and the relationship the child had with the mother. I could give you my side on it or speak about how I feel my two daughters would react to the hand me downs. My oldest, would appreciate the thought, hand down, but it's not her style. She might keep one of my mother's expensive ones, but the rest probably wouldn't suit her.
The other daughter would keep all of it, because she has a " keep everything in life" issue. There's more to it, but for the most part, this daughter would be proud to have it passed down to her.
Myself.. Well my mother passed away just about two years ago, and I pretty much have it all, either in storage or my home. Her things mean the world to me, even the littlest, worthless item.. She and I shared hundreds and hundreds of times together, and anytime I look at something of hers, it takes me back to being with her. Sadly, when I go,,, 3/4 of my mother's stuff and mine too, will most likely hit the dumpster. Don't trust live in caretakers, no matter how sweet and honest they seem... I could be wrong on this, but I doubt it.
Back to topic.. My honest guess on what the child would do is>> the mass majority will probably keep it for a while in the closet and then eventually let it go, not hang onto it.
On the addition, looking at it in a positive light, the excessity items do have value and you have them in hand, unlike " drinking or drugs".. It would be pretty darn tough to recoupe any money spent on drinking or chemical addition. Purses, yes :)
Wishing you the Best, for the Rest, of 2012 and the Years to come.

Why do u spend thousands on a bag?!

I really do not know.. I think it started as a child in NJ, USA.. in the park.. The business ladies would go in there suits and Coach bags for lunch or whatever and I just could not get over the bags... Go forward a lot more year than I care to count and DH got me my first Designer bag... and I was hooked..

The amount of money I have sent and lost on bags should be totally shocking if I would ever care to figure it out.. but in the end it is my passion to collect and cary this bags and every one needs a hobby..
