Where you from, dear? I'm from PA. Like near-NO-major-city PA! Like an hr North of Harrisburg. That's totally crazy though. People have NO clue!!!

Sorry to deviate from the topic...

Well at least you live NEAR civilization! I am in the south. I hesitate to name the actual locale for fear my husbands business might suffer, tho doubt any clientele of his breeze through here. This is a fact and a big clue! I have to go out of state to even shop for designer!! Seriously I take vacations sometimes to areas based on their stores! The bay is a big help ( or folly) depending on how you look at it. You better know a fake if go there though. That was were I got my Hermes (used of course)! Can't pay 6 figures for a bag!! Wow wish I could find some tag sales like that here!! I have found the "least" pickings at the better areas. Never could figure that out!
Thanks for chatting. Enjoyed!:p

I only carry Bottega Veneta
Louie is made from plasticized cotton (most likely made in china)
Burberry who wears plaid?????
I don't like logos
I like the fact that no one knows I am carrying a a 3 thousand dollar handbag

It's not so much about the bag as it is the price and the brand. If the same bag was inexpensive, the romance would be over.
There are plenty of great quality bags for less than $100 but they don't have the same impact.

I think you have absolutely hit the mark!!! I find it so Anyway! I have ask myself many times " if this bag were $50 instead of $500 would you want it?" And most of the time the answer is truly no. When i spy the price tag is usually the point "got to have it hits". INSANITY! Maybe the rush comes from spending more than we should. Lol. On that same thought when I bought my Escalade there was another brand sitting right beside it for half the price, and that was truly MUCH more beautiful, but I didn't want it! See same principle.

reminds me of an incident that happened to me when I lived in a small town.. Back in the 80's Pierre Cardin was huge (yes, I'm that old )

So I bought my first "designer" bag and it had the PC logo on it and carried it to a rather nice luncheon.. so a woman asked me "Since your name is Olga, why does your bag have P's all over it?"

answer: "The P's mean "Price"... it cost at least 10x more than it's worth"

:smartass: I know.. but I couldn't help it! :bagslap:

Oh that funny!!!:lolots::lolots::lolots::lolots:

I think we should stop justifying our love on branded bags and bashing ourselves for it, cause I don't see the man justifying or bashing themselves for spending hundreds of thousands on their Merc or BMWs. They are majority discussing how to boost the performance and spending even more money in their forum. They just need to justify to the wifey :)

I love my Chanel and Hermes, if I can afford it I buy it. Haha....

One of my favorite bags turned out to be a bag I spent less than $200 on. Never heard of the brand before 'Tylie Malibu' but I love it and I use it more than any other more expensive bag I've owned or own. Go figure.

My favorites are BV & Gucci:D

So soft BV could be used as a pillow, of course honey that's one expensive pillow & don't even think of drooling on it!

Seriously - spending thousands on a designer bag because: it can be love, lust, infatuation or possibly all three - the things that tend to get us ladies (& men too) in the most trouble & can bring the most pleasure.

Hi babe!

I understand where you and everyone else is coming from...but I honestly don't believe there was any "incident" or "incidents" that triggered my bag-buying addiction to be out of control. I just think I have an addictive personality... With everything I do...whether it be eating, sleeping, not sleeping, loving, shopping DO-ing...I DO everyrhing to the extreme. I've had relationship issues lately, yes...nothing is perfect...but I've been like this even BEFORE this relationship. Even when I was happily single. Or happily in other relationships. I was still like this. Only now it's getting worse. It's like I get a "high" or excitement when I get packages in the mail. But it's soooo short lived! I wait all week for THE anticipated package and then when I get it, its like, "ho hum...another BAG!". Like, I admit...I DO shop more when I'm sad or bummed out, but I'm generally a happy person. I don't get it. I just think I have an addictive personality, because whenever I get into something. I kinda
get "obsessed" with it.
Not to change the subject, but I recently started cutting my own hair, and because Im a perfectionist, I have been working on my hair almost every
DAY... It's a masterpiece in progress! It just keeps getting better and alot of
my friends have now asked me to do their hair, too! My one friend said to me the other day, "boy...you really get obsessed with things! There's no "half-
way" for you". So like I think I'm kinda OCD and have an addictive personality,
but I'm honestly not sure what triggers my bag habit... Or does anything even HAVE to trigger it?? Like does there NEED to be a reason for my madness? DOes it really NEED to be from something my life that is LACKING? Or can I just be perfectly bag-crazy with no cause???
So confused...???

Ohh wish I could do that with my hair!! Could buy another bag with money saved! Lol
Seriously I hear what you are saying about the addiction thing and totally
agree! I have known long time "addiction" tends to run in my family. Like everything else we inherit from our genes I think. I have several ( some
recovering some not) alcoholics in my family.
I almost fainted when read your description of the high and all you said about receiving packages. I AM EXACTLY AS YOU DESCRIBED! Same with store
purchase. As long as it is still in the bag I get a rush when I think of it. Only when I take it out, maybe, but not necessarily, carry it, it's OVER! As you say just another bag!!! I couldn't believe how exactly you described it!!!
Like you my bag addiction didn't start with Sunny's death. Oh no, I had it already. Always the bag dept is where I head first in any dept store and always have. That is why that was my downfall when my life crisis hit. It was just exacerbated by my pets death. It was in place already. Something that
gave me happiness or at least a rush. The mind is so amazing. I had always had some control with the bag thing, but I lost control and my finances suffered! That is what woke me up to my situation. Tho not rich I have always
been financially responsible. I was losing that.
Maybe you have not reached that point. Anyway I hope we have given food for
thought and you are aware the danger exists. But hey, thank God it's not drugs or worse, right. If like me you know you have an addictive personality, shun those please. Those have NO element of fun or benign excitement AND
we can always resale our bags. :D

Sunbyrd and Nchild2700: Ouch. That hurted but so true. Thanks for the wake call. I buy bags because I think nobody spoils me so I spoil myself. (no bday gifts, no Xmas gifts, no mothers' day gifts, no St-valentine gifts, no romantic outings, no anniversary gifts, nothing nothing nothing for 25 years.) I take care of my whole family. I buy them what they need, gifts for family, gifts for the in-laws while I don't receive anything. I cook, clean, work and they take me for granted. So I say that the bags are my salary, my reward for being the maid, the mom, the housewife, the one who brings money home, who pays the vacations, the private school, the car, the mortgage, the one who has savings for the old age and the emergency funds. My bags are my reward for being all that, so why am I so sad????

I am so sorry you are hurting :hugs: you sound like a very loving an unselfish person. There are many who take for granted persons like you, unfortunately. Maybe you can try to put yourself first a bit and others may appreciate you more. The old adage " we don't appreciate what we have until it's gone" is so true. Try saying "no" more. Best wishes. :hugs:

I hear ya! I'm a total bag snob too. Not that it matters in my little hole-in-the-wall town. No one knows designer here, anyway, but I still can't help it. I CHECK out the name on EVERYONE'S bag, and get so bummed out at how many junk bags and fakes I see... The sad part is, everyone assumes my bags are fake, just because of the area I live in... :( You have no idea how excited I get when I see someone w/ a great bag! As it usually turns out, they are usually from out of the area, but I always make sure to compliment that person on their bag! :)

And, it may also be awful of me to say this, but when I see someone w/ a cheap bag, I think it totally kills their whole look altogether! They could have the cutesy outfit on, but the pleather bag just screams CHEAP! And ruins any look of sophistication they were going for. I don't mean to offend anyone, that's just my opinion... I think accessories MAKE an outfit!

I would never judge a person by the bag they carry. Cheap or expensive it would be wrong to judge them. I just accept they have different taste than me
either way. Some expensive bags are ugly to me and some cheapies can be quite attractive. It's very shallow to judge a persons character by the bag they
carry. If it were really an indicator of character those of us who must have designer would probably come out on the low end of the scale as potentially
materialistic, shallow and insecure. So I do not want to be judged by my bag. I look at others bags because I love bags. Period. It doesn't tell me a thing about their character or their income for that matter. Just their preferences.

Agreed! This is exactly my thought.

because 1 perfect bag is better than 100 cheap bags :)

Oh you are so LUCKY!! See that is how I WANT to feel!! But I am wanting the 100 perfect bags!!! But not really!! I want that one perfect bag that will cause me to never look at another! Oh what joy to be SATISFIED!! That is how it should be! I know in my heart if I had that diamond encrusted Birkin I would STILL BE LOOKING!! :crybaby:

For me, the thrill is buying something that I love and will enjoy using, not how much I am spending on it.

But you see, you are sane. WE are not. Lol. Seriously there are surely some of us who think they are buying quality that will last. For those like me it matters NOT, for I won't carry it long enough to wear it out if it were made from tissue paper. The quote you replied to said it for me. "what thrill is there in buying a $50 bag?". THAT is it I think for me. It's got to strain my budget and be something I know I "shouldn't" or there is no buzz! Oh I wish to beat this addiction!! But as with all addictions, not truly, really, really for I love the rush. Agghhh:drool::weird:

When I was younger and before I had children, I only used a purse when I had no choice. I hated purses. Once I had my kids, a purse became a useful tool. A few years later, I started actually recognizing brands and found I really liked Fossil. They seemed so expensive and I would buy them when they occasionally were on sale.

Moving to present day, fate brought me to live close to NYC, and before I knew it, I was buying designer brands. Some of it has been ego-driven; but now it's appreciation for quality. I work hard for my money, and I deserve some nice things in my life.

It's only money and after all, I'm helping to stimulate the economy.;)
