Why do u spend thousands on a bag?!

Bags, cars, clothes...It's just a matter of choices (and economic possibilities).
Rewarding ourselves, looking for the beauty is something we tend to do always, but each woman has her own preferences.
My dearest friend is growing up two children by herself, she's paying for everything, house included, and just prefers to spend her money on nice cars (when possible, of course!).
Maybe something to make her feel prettier also, even plastic surgery.
Another friend prefers to "buy" beautiful trips around the world (if I had the time, that would be my choice, too!).
Buying things (cars, jewelery, shoes, clothes and so on) is a little help when we're stressed, tired, bored, or even depressed.
I noticed that I tend to buy like a mad when I'm less happy, or worried. For example when I'm waiting for something important and I'm worried. Or when I fall in love I immediately start buying things to make me feel more feminine.
In the end, whatever we choose to buy, these rewards are little helps. And we tend to look for the best because it's like saying "you deserve the best, my dear" to ourselves.
At least, that's my opinion.
In the end a few people have the knowledge to appreciate all the craftmanship's details, or the innovative line of the design...a few people can distinguish between a high price because of marketing choice and a high price because that item is really super high quality.
We just buy what we think is the best reward for us. But marketing plays an important role in that.
In the end, a bag is a bag. We could just have a couple of designers' ones for special occasions and other less expensive but functional ones for everyday.
We could...but we can also choose to have around us some beautiful and well chosen things that make us feel special, if we can.

I'm strange in any case. Don't like my designers things to be recognized.
I don't feel good if someone looks at me with envy, expecially if the other person isn't wealthy: my beloved bag is something to make ME feel special, not to make someone else feel less special, KWIM?

I have read this thread several times and I have had to think about it for a while.
Am I suppose to be honest or lie?
My first thought was..........because I can....but, I really cant.
Then I thought............because I am worth it....but, really I am not.

There are several reasons I guess....

I didnt start out with $1000 bags........it started with an RM Nikki....
from there, over a couple of years, the amount of bags and the price I paid went up....
Lets see........RM, Botkier, Tod's, Mulberry, then what I thought was the HG........actually it is.......BV........

But, even for the amount of money a BV is.....its STILL not the perfect bag for me......
I dont think I will EVER find the perfect bag..........unless I design it..........and then I am sure I will decide that even it is not perfect............

I think my bags are an outlet for me. I think that if I spend $$$$ on a bag, I will feel something......self worth? important? pretty? rich? elegant? included?

Instead, I am none of those things.......actually, just the opposite..........

So, in a nutshell, I guess I buy $$$$ bags because I am stupid.......but I still enjoy them, even if no one knows its a $$$$ bag or even cares............

I wouldn't spend "thousands". But, yes, lots of money on bags. I would rather spend a lot of money on a timeless, high-quality bag than a flavor of the month that I probably wouldn't use after a year. I have less expensive bags hiding up in my closet as proof. I keep going back to old LV's purchased years ago, because they are not trendy and they stand the test of time. And, of course, because I can. I wouldn't miss a mortgage or anything important over a bag. Some people spa every month, vacation several times a year, buy jewelry or electronic gadgets at every new release. I like bags and electronics, and ONE vacation per year. I can live without more jewelry and regular spas. I even do my own mani/pedis because I like to.

But you see, you are sane. WE are not. Lol. Seriously there are surely some of us who think they are buying quality that will last. For those like me it matters NOT, for I won't carry it long enough to wear it out if it were made from tissue paper. The quote you replied to said it for me. "what thrill is there in buying a $50 bag?". THAT is it I think for me. It's got to strain my budget and be something I know I "shouldn't" or there is no buzz! Oh I wish to beat this addiction!! But as with all addictions, not truly, really, really for I love the rush. Agghhh:drool::weird:

I'm the same way. Don't get me wrong...I loooove fine leathers and craftsmanship, but in all actuality, it really doesn't matter WHAT my bags are made out of, because I will only ever use each bag a few times. I usually only use a bag until a buy the next one. And that process usually repeats itself so frequently, that I never really have time to switch off and use my older bags.

I see some bags on eBay and don't understand how some people can literally use a bag until it falls apart. Some newer bags that I see are in such poor condition, for only being out a short time... I can't picture what one would do to possibly get their bag in that condition...? That is because every bag that I resell is in "like new" condition, having only been used once or twice. No patina on my Louies... No scuffed corners... No pen marks inside. My bags never get used or dirty because I don't allow them time to!

It depends on what makes you happy, aside from all the normal stuff like family and friends. Everyone is different and almost everyone, women especially, have a vice. I frequently ask myself why some people spend hundreds every month on going out and getting drunk, or on takeaway meals and cigarettes. Living that kinda lifestyle in these times isn't cheap, let me tell you! And none of that appeals to me but hey ho, I guess it does to some. Some folk prefer to spend their money on simply having a good time but having nothing tangible to show for, except maybe memories. And that's good but it's not for me. I prefer to have and see something for my money. And if that means shelling out a grand on a pretty Balenciaga or a Mulberry then I will. I think it's very important to here not to assume that everyone is rolling in money - I'm sure some are but that's none of anyone's business. Personally, I'm not ashamed to say that I'm not - I earn a regular salary but I have no kids (hallelujah!) and I'm not currently with anyone so my money is my own. Best way to be, in my opinion. I work so hard for my bags when I get one, and for me, that makes them all the more special. I don't know, but I feel that if I did have loads of money and could pop out and buy a new designer bag every week then they would lose some of their appeal. My main vices are bags, designer make-up and Tiffany jewellery. Oh, and Ugg boots as well but only in the winter! Aside from that, everything else I own is pretty regular and largely high-street. Plus, as an owner of two Balenciaga Giant City bags, I'm pretty sure that those babies will only grow in value since the true giant hardware is discontinued! I like to think I'm sitting on a future gold mine! Designer bags aren't cheap but they are an investment in most cases and well, the answer was already given before - buy cheap and you get cheap. End of.

I decided a long time ago there is NO such thing as the perfect bag, for me anyway. Every bag I've owned or own I swear at the time it's 'the one', not two months later and I'm searching again...sigh. I could have all the money in the world to afford whatever bag I want and I still would be searching. I guess that's why I have to take a break from buying and find at least a 'good enough for now' bag and try and stick with it for at least a month or two.

my mother always told me to buy 1 good thing a year if that was all I could afford
make it the best and you will never be sorry
I have st john's suits from my mother that are probably 40 years old and I could still wear them today

I guess it all boils down to tastes and preferences, personal habits and care. I have bags that are 10 yrs old that I still love and use. But I also take care of them. I store them in their dust bags when not in use. And I don't toss them around carelessly. Therefore, they last long without scratches and stains. I am this way with all my bags, cheap or expensive.

I do so because I like the design of the bag. Will not deny that I also have a passion for certain brands. On the whole, the designer bags have great quality and when you get a classic piece, it'll last you forever.

Since this thread floats around at the beginning of everything, I finally stopped in to take a look ... again ... and I was wondering if anybody has ever considered 'spending thousands on a lot of bags' ... I mean, if you think about it, don't those of us who can afford HIGH HIGH HIGH end bags end up spending thousands on a bunch of lower-cost bags... but maybe that's another thread.

So yes ... bag(s). Over a deca... er, few months, easily. :D
