Why Do People Buy Fake Designer Bags Or Fake Designer Anything?

With all respect Wonder Woman firstly they are illegal and secondly you are actually financing the mafia - the same people who traffic other women into prostitution. If you are happy being involved with that that is your ethical choice but please bear in mind that these bags represent the worst in society - child labour/slavery makes them, the same mafia that transports illegal immigrants brings them in and the proceeds will fund further crime. Your moral choice.

Yeah, during the course of this thread, several people have stated that even if they don't carry fakes they don't "judge" people who do. But why shouldn't we judge them?! After all, if we knew someone was a thief, we'd think them worthy of condemnation. Buying fakes is just one step removed, because you're buying from the thieves.

That said, as I mentioned when the person is quite young I'm more understanding, since they probably just don't know better.

I agree. but how do you know they bought it on purpose?? Maybe they don't know its fake?? I know many people get tricked on eBay.. Sometimes they don't know if the bag they are carrying is a brand you know:shrugs: IF, im saying if... i was carrying a knockoff marc j *i dont know anything about marc jacobs yet..* and didn't know, won't you still judge me.

SO...I was in Coach last weekend with my Damier Neverfull, and one of the SA's was like 'I like your bag!!!!'....I was like, oh thanks! :D and she leaned in conspiratorially and said in a low voice:"IS IT REAL"?????

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As if she wanted to know where I got it!!!! :cursing:

no, someone else . . . funny thing about bannees that keep coming back is they always draw attention to themselves! LOL! Why try and sneak back in but post in some of the more controversial threads?

Ethics of buying/selling fake bags aside...

This thread is hilarious to me. The idea that carrying a real bag makes you better than someone else? Last time I checked, money can't buy class or taste. And a fake bag is the ultimate way of saying "I'm so cheap?" Would you say the same about someone that is carrying an authentic brand but wearing designer knock-offs from Forever 21? Louboutin look-alikes from Steve Madden?

It's also equally as likely that someone with an authentic bag is trying to give off the impression and/or illusion of wealth. Just because you see someone with a big house or a new car doesn't mean they aren't wallowing in debt...

I was referring more to people who KNOWINGLY carry fakes. I do think most fakes are pretty obvious IRL, because they're made from cheaper grade materials (something you can't always see on eBay, making it much easier to get scammed)... although there are some really good fakes out there. But of course I wouldn't judge someone who was simply taken advantage of! Perhaps that's one of the reasons to judge younger girls less harshly--they also haven't had as much practice identifying fakes.
