i, for one, think this is a very informative thread. i learned a lot from RDC's comments about the spots on the bags and the possibility of cheap labor. as a consumer, these things matter to me and i do want to know. i love bbags and understand the leather variation but there are some things that are not okay.
i just like to see this as a way of sharing knowledge about the bags that we all love. to me (as with many of you i'm sure), collecting bbags has somewhat become a hobby and we all know about what the colors are called, what came out which season etc and why not take it further and learn more about manufacturing process?
a lot of girls here have owned bbags since 01 and it is so interesting to me to hear all their different stories about the bags and quality then versus now.

Personally, I think that each person that has an issue with 1 or more of their bags should contact the store that they purchased from. If the stores/Balenciaga don't take care of the quality issues, then buy bags from a different designer!

I really don't think the black dots are a new thing or a defect, I believe they are goat freckles or beauty marks and I've seen them on bags from almost every year. My fabulous '05 Turquoise First had at least one on the handle.

I do however, believe the black or brown dot beauty marks are becoming more common and it's probably due to the fact that thousands and thousands more goat skins are needed to make as many bags as they are producing now. Plus, some dark colors will just cover up these natural markings and we won't know they are there in the first place.

The leather has also always had color variations between dye batches and individual skin's absorption level as well as texture variations between the panels of leather, but it is the crafts person's responsibility for matching the pieces together in a way that looks good on the bag, not just throw a light colored handle onto and darker color bag.

These bags are made with natural materials that may have imperfections that were characteristic of the animal used. I have personally inspected hundreds of Balenciaga bags and each one is truly unique. Balenciaga bag leather is tanned to break-in quickly and look vintage with color changes from use and time that gives the bag it's own unique character.

I'm not trying to say there aren't legitimate problems with some of the bags, but if we all look close enough at all our bags we're likely going to find things that aren't perfect about them but they are just the natural features. I've learned to love the things that give a bag it's personality.
RDC...Very well said...I like your point of view... My bBags have character or some may say flaws.. but i Love it! I guess theres a fine line between character & actual QC issues. So far, I'v been please w/ my bBag encounters.. hopefully it'll stay like that~! :wlae:

There are at least 3 mods watching & posting on this thread, so I trust that one of them will close it if/when they deem it necessary.

I dislike over-moderation and hope that the warnings are enough to keep the conversation on track.

I agree, at this point I don't think there is a problem if we stick to the title of this post and not wander elsewhere.

The attention should be brought up to the store where you purchased the bags from. If you bought it from Neimans...then let them know...and in turn, they can inform their handbag buyers of the issues/concerns that their clients have for that particular bag/brand...and then the buyers will be able to bring up any feedbacks to Balenciaga (not Balenciaga NY...but the actual Distribution center).

*All leather scratches, some more than others. Whilst I am perfectly content with my Balenciagas, I think any concerns that each and everyone of us have is valid.

RDC...I'm loving all your helpful info :yahoo:

Lordguinny: Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm a little surprised by your statement: "... that the mods will not hesistate to close threads that go down the path of showing collective actions against a store, designer or brand."

As I have understood, this is a forum where bag lovers – and consumers – can exchange ideas, viewpoints, regrets etc.

If a group of likeminded aficionados have legitimate concerns about the quality of the products, why would tPF-mods object to members arranging to collectively voice those concerns towards the manufacturer in their own names?

In many countries consumer associations – most of which have started out as grass roots – have a great deal of influence, resulting in legislation that aims to protect consumers from being taken advantage of by less than conscientious traders and manufactures.

… Much in the way we organise and collectively report fakes on e**ay, actually… (From the ‘Authenticate this’ thread)

here here! exactly! i understood that this was the whole point of a forum. i have never seen a member posting an opinion on behalf of tpf nor have i witnessed any member attempt to manipulate other members into taking some kind of action against a store or SA. well actually i have, but because she was a mod i guess that was allowed. why is it that despite all the dreadful experiences ordinary members have, (& why shouldn't we share our bad experiences as well as our good? look at all the great pr bal get from the poitive threads that are posted, but perhaps we shouldn't post these either "we should just direct them straight to the store we purchased our bags in"). but the second one should dare criticise bal ny, that particular member is repremanded or the thread closed down? other stores/ SA's are criticised but it seems to go virtually un-noticed. am i missing something here? maybe the tpf should be re-named tbnyas - "the balenciaga new york appreciation society"

This is awful :(

I have a 2005 city - and I've really had no problems. It always shocks me when I hear about splitting tassles, etc because I'm the ROUGHEST on my bbag (I bought it at a time where all I had was LV, which I babied because of the vachetta, so being the Balenciaga was my first DYED leather bag, I just used it without any special care) - and I have the same tassles on my bbag that it came with when I got it from the store in 05 - no splitting or discoloration or anything. The bag looks better now than it did before! I always thought the bbags were more fragile than LV - especially with the nature of the 05 bbags, which were the "new bags" when I got mine - and I found the leather to be "flimsy". It's held up quite well - but I kinda expected it to be the sort of bag you wear into the ground, ie not a bag with real resale potential.

I got 2 different cities in 06 - a cornflower and an antique rose. I ended up returning the rose and selling the cornflower with the tags still on it because I just didn't feel the same love for them as I did with my 05. I never used either of the 06 bags. The leather was just not the same. Then I started hearing all the complaints about the quality... I was dissapointed.

Bottom line is that I'm glad I got my bbag when I did, lol. Though I still think it's just a bag and certainly not indestructable, I think it's held up much better than I'd initially expected it to.

first of all, just because YOU haven't witnessed something, doesn't mean it doesn't or isn't happening:nogood:
It's OUR RULE, if you guys don't like it, PM Vlad and Megs.

2nd of all, no one in this thread, said at any point, you cannot share experiences:confused1:
let me make it clear, SHARE ALL YOU LIKE!!!

this is really very simple, we do not allow people to use this website as a platform in which to launch attacks or complaints against any retailer, the fact that it's a B-Bag retailer is irrelevant. NO ONE CAN DO THIS.

Finally, I have NO idea what your final comment means. . . but if you think we don't run this massive website full of women the way you see fit, feel free to start your own:yes:

I wanted to include my response to the quality control issues poised here. I just received a violet step today, my dream bag as I love the color and style so much. When I opened the box I was aghast, the leather on the main part of the bag was very rough, the top piece of leather is a different color than the body and the tassels look like a cat had been chewing on them. (A first, prechewed tassels!) I am all for natural variation due to the goatskin but it seems like the maker of this bag could have at least matched colors of the dyed pieces. Needless to say the bag is going back and I feel bad for my sales assistant in this instance. If we are paying over $1000 per bag we should be entitled to a quality product.

Both I'm pretty sure. Check back in this thread to Swanky Mama's comments about not using the name of tpf and also that official complaints should be made by the individual, not as a group
