I think the NM card is great if you shop there. You get points for gift cards, lots of special extra promotions in the mail ($50 off any purchase, $25-50 off shoes... first notice of sales all within last month). If you live close to a Last Call location it is also great since you get 5% off every purchase there, and they are always having card promotions (25% off one item, 25% off entire purchase...) and these purchases also earn points. They do offer a 10% off the day you get the card. The InCircle program also has levels with complementary gift wrap, subscription to "The Book" and more.

I have a Nordstrom Platinum Visa b/c I worked at Nordstrom in h.s. The Nordstrom retail card was my first cc on my own. They upgraded me over time. As a Nordstrom Platinum Visa holder, I get 3 points per $1 spent. During double point bonus days, I get 6 points per $1, so I only need to spend $333.33 to get a $20 reward. I earned $80 from last year's Anniversary Sale. They also keep track of your reward, so if you lose it or don't use it before the printed expiration date, then they will issue a new one. Even though there is a printed expiration date, they still take it past the expiration. Like others said, if you can't pay the balance in full each month, the interest rates are very high.

I have a Nordstroms card which I love. I'm thinking about applying for Saks card to get 10% off Chanel. Can students apply? I wasn't sure if they are stingy with what you need in order to get approve.

Thanks!

Saks has always been tempting to me, but we don't have a saks here so i figured it didn't make much sense.

i love having a nordstrom card because of the $20 nordstorm notes which can be used at nordstrom rack, so the savings are great, and the expiration date is months away from when it is issued. it's not unsual for me to keep a nordstrom note for 6 months until i find something i love.

NM cards are kinda useless IMO. from what i know, it takes A LOT of spending to even start earning rewards, but my mom just has a basic NM card (i don't know how many different levels there are).

I have been very happy with my Saks Mastercard. I opened it to purchase a Chanel bag and saved $270.

I like the fact that I can use the card outside of Saks and earn points, plus the benefits outside of Saks are great.

This is a World Mastercard, which comes with all sorts of benefits like travel protection insurance , return protection etc.

Free Priority Pass which comes with the card. This normally costs $99 a year. If you travel at all, this is great as it provides lounge access at airports.

$1000 Saks Gift Card if you purchase any type of new Mercedes even includes C Class.

Gift Certificates for the Palm Restaurant for different amounts when you hit certain tiers within Saks first.

Abercromibe and Kent Discounts etc.

Saks F+F can't be beat, and triple points add up quick.
Was even better when they allowed ECG's on Chanel.

Negatives Poor customer service the card is run by HSBC, which does not compare at all to Amex.

For Saks First, when the next year rolls around, does the 4 points per dollar, get reset?

And for instance, if you purchase a 2,000 bag during the triple point event, does that equate to 24,000 points?

Not sure. But They had event in October that was double points and I guess I purchased something because I was sent a $100 gc in the mail. Right now I have 20,000 points on Saks and I'm trying to figure out what that amounts to in GC for the end of the year. Does anyone out there know?

Bloomie's gave me 20% off for my Chanel purse (although rare), Sak's gave me 10% for my second Chanel, ...Neiman...none.

Saks has the triple point events...so I dunno, I'm going to go with Saks.

I usually just use my American Express card when shopping... The only dept store card I have is a Saks... The only reason I even got it was to save 10% on my Chanel flap.
