Hokaplan, I loved it! I tried on the legacy, the novo, the embrace, and even colored gemstone legacies, but in the end, the sola captured my heart the most. My bf and I are going to be out of town this weekend but we made an appointment next weekend for *fingers crossed* hopefully a purchase!

Just out of curiousity (esp. since contessa brought it up!) how much should an excellent princess 1/2 carat cost not from Tiffany? The one at Tiffany was $3900 and Contessa seemed to think overpriced or not to pay Tiffany price for that size/shape. I'm wondering if it would be a thousand less elsewhere. Thanks!

I don't care for Princess cuts in general. I'll say no more as not to offend anyone ;)

Bluenile is a great tool for comparing prices if you don't have access to Rapaport. 0.5ct E/F colour Triple Ex go from $1,264 onwards.

Is Tiffany overpriced? I think the answer is pretty clear.

Contessa & evekitti - Do you think I can put a new stone into an old empty setting that once held a round 1.25? The setting has tapered baguettes on each side and is platinum. Other than round, what shape would you suggest?

I think you'd have to get the ring recast. Your jeweller can probably reuse the platinum and baguettes. I'm no expert when it comes to ring setting, but unless your new stone has exactly the same dimensions as the old one, I can't imagine how it would fit since the ring was cast to hold the old stone.

Apart from round, my other favourites are Asscher, emerald and cushion (the squarer ones with ratio between 1 to 1.1). Contessa and I may not like Princess cuts but if you do, go for it!! Don't let our opinions influence your decision!

Do you think the asscher, emerald or cushion would look nice in the middle of tapered baguettes? Tiffany has an emerald one pictured on their site. I wonder if it is expensive to get ring recast.

I personally would go for the G VS1. I like the G grading and think it is worth the extra money. I do not think the F would be worth the extra money, but that is JMHO!!

Wow - this was so fun re-reading this thread from 1 year ago! If you did not figure out - since there are so many people on forum - how this played out: I ended up NOT getting a .50 Tiffany ring for my daughter a year ago. I couldn't make a decision. Must have been turned off by the novos that one day. I ended up buying a .50 princess stone from a very reputable jeweler for under $2,000. But , since my friend began a hunt for a soleste from Tiffanys, I'm now interested in one for me for a RHR. The prices are close to $5,000 for sizes from .33 to .40. Haven't found the exact specs I want yet. Will keep you posted....
