Which influencers do you really trust recommendations from?

Also a fan of Sophie Shohet. There's a genuine tone and warmth in her videos and she is very frank, but still classy. She's a big Dior fan and I feel for her about her poor experiences elsewhere.

Sometimes I wish I could introduce her to my SA from Chanel after hearing about her poor experiences in the shops. He kind of reminds me of one of her SA's in Dior in a way.

Well... one I recommended recently as she was one of the only people to showcase a product(s) in question within a title of a thread (in a different designer forum) and seemed trustworthy. Mainly, I think that was because she a) was genuinely interested in the products for herself and b) she spent her own money on them.

I noticed after my posting she immediately get a huge PR gift from the brand in question and now has sponsorship from another brand I mentioned her in an article somewhere else (again, for her honest opinions). Almost at once I could see slight change her behaviour, the annoying regularity of ads before, during and after each vid...and so now I'm keeping my big mouth shut about my go-to beauty reviewers.

I don't begrudge the PR products or sponsorships but let's not kid ourselves that YT, TkTk or Insta influencers basically don't end-up being advertorial once they reach a certain level.

This is my long-winded way of me saying since no one's paying me, most influencers can kick-start their own careers without my help. It also shows the power of tPF should never be underestimated!

Now having said that I will make an exception because do like John Mclean because he's wonderful at makeup, has so much personality with zero vulgarity. He has no time for anything he doesn't like including trends:

I also have always enjoyed Fumi Desalu Vold because she buys Hermes and Zara with equal pleasure and is so much fun without ever being patronising or vulgar - but she was a model and she is a commercial brand so I have no illusions. Some of her quotes are priceless though " I love colour because of what colour can do for me!" She's so old' school and the lady I'm not, I really just watch her for watching her sake, Vogue is not nearly as entertaining (at least not any more).

I know who you are talking about. I followed them for quite a bit, and I noticed the slight change as well especially in the recent sponsored video. I enjoy Fumi Desalu Vold for the reasons you do, and her personality is so lively!

Unfortunately most will do anything for a quick buck. I was fuming when I saw a post by one influencer telling her followers to drink sugar water to self diagnose stomach issues. Medical professionals have more harrowing issues to worry about at this time.

I also like Fumi, I used to watched her channel last year but I always forgot her name. Thanks for writing her name on here, I'll just come back on this thread when it will happen again, but I think I remember her name from now on:amuse:

Although it’s hard to get past her immense wealth, “Mel in Melbourne” is charming, attractive, intelligent and exudes warmth. She has an interesting style, very feminine, and shares prices with every unboxing. Right now she’s the only one I’ve been watching. Once in awhile I watch Leo the Lion and LuxPurseluv. The last one is helpful in finding bargains, but she can’t stop touching her hair - drives me crazy, it’s very distracting, so I stopped watching her!

I agree! Another Mel in Melbourne fan here. She does buy but at least you don’t see her selling her bags every few months like other luxury youtubers. Or selling and buying the exact same bag over and over... After watching her recent personal Q&A I actually like her more. She didn’t dodge the difficult questions. I also feel the same way...there is a certain warmth about her and I like that she works with the same brands over and over so I do trust your recommendations (although Shoptagr should really cut down how many influencers post about them).
I also like Sophie Shohet both are the only 2 luxury influencers I like and still follow. I used to watch others but seems like they go from Walmart to LV and everything is LIKEtoKNOW.it.

chanel is the worst! I’ve stopped buying the service is terrible. Sophie and Mel in Melbourne are the 2 luxury youtubers I like and trust. I like that they work with brands over and over and I see they both work with the same brands. Emma Anders is quite charming too!

The people I watch tend to be fun and funny. They could be talking about handbags made of jello, but if they have a sense of humor, I’m in! On YT I watch Cassie Thorp (super fun gal), Sophie Shohet and Caitlin Pawlowski the most. Would love to hear more suggestions.

I love Cassie! She's hilarious and very animated, but what I like most is that her videos are consistently short and to the point. Sometimes YT videos drag on too long.
