The recent designs are lazy. It started with the folded canvas corners. If you look at bags from pre-2000, they had lots of details: reinforced corners, piping along the bottom, extra hardware and trim, etc. They took more steps to make.

Now I see new releases that look like it takes less than 10 steps to make. The Atlantis bag, for example. Just a basic grocery bag made from monogram canvas. Basic pochettes with a canvas strap for $3000. Cheap denim and raffia. In the past LE were really special. I got married in 2010 and lusted after the monogram Eden speedy. Look at the details on that bag! Strips of leather sewn throughout, beautiful details. That bag was worth the $2000 price tag back then. These days I don’t see anything like it, and the prices are astronomical. It’s enough to drive me to buy pre-2000 for half the price and double the workmanship.
I agree 100% with your statement about the detailing and quality of the older handbags. I know LV was moving more towards leathers and exotic materials where you will definitely get the beautiful details on the handbags. I think LV would have continued with more launches of the higher end designer bags but their consumer mid tier market dropped globally and now they are trying to keep this consumer which is purchasing these lower quality products. I remember the rumors of the basic Neverfull bag being scarce or discontinued but when there was a new launch this same bag style came back different color's, designs, higher price points. It's going to be interesting to see how many new launches are going to be from older designs but different materials because this was a popular product. This is a lazy sales tactic.
