Somehow, I feel compelled to keep stirring the pot on this subject. OK, here goes:

As many of us have probably already pointed out, H has now jumped the shark from IYKYK to middle class aspirational brand.

The vast number of bags on internet display would logically indicate that some women are taking on serious credit card debt to buy these bags. IMO, no one should EVER take on debt to buy a bag, or any other lux product for that matter. Being in debt is DEFINITELY not luxurious. (BTW, I still think that lots of the bags on display on Insta are mirror replicas.)

To H's credit, they have not yet launched a lower priced "bridge" line. Wanna bet that the line would nave "Twilly" in there somewhere?
Well, they brought out their (lousy, in my unpopular opinion) make-up line to drawn in that crowd. "Consolation merchandise," as @880 points out.

My unpopular opinion about Hermès on this snowy Sunday is that if you believe that Hermès is any (or all!) of these things:

too middle-class for you; aspirational but not luxury enough (for you); terribly boring; ugly; a den of vipers populated by scheming SAs and overrun by horrific customer service; too overexposed for you; purchased by people whom you deem to be NOKD; declined in quality to the point that it's like any other brand -

you can stop buying it. No one is forcing anyone to patronize their local Hermès boutique :flowers:

My latest unpopular opinion is I don’t get the appeal of the grommets style bangles. They’re reminiscent of the eighties gold chain bangles that cheesy guys were stacking to emulate Mr T. Now Mr T could pull it off but the other guys . . .
Ironically my SA And hubby both call me Mr T because of my Hermes jewelry LOL. I’ve also been trying to get my hands on the Kelly gourmette and describe it as the chain my uncle would wear 😭🤣

WAY back in 1979, Stanley Marcus (chairman of Neiman Marcus) wrote a wonderful book entitled "Quest for the Best" In it, Marcus quotes an executive at Hermès who admits that their leather was no longer the best quality. Hermès didn't even make Marcus' "Best of the Best" leather goods category at the end of the book. That honor went to Valextra. Hermès would NEVER make such a candid admission today, and I doubt that their leather quality has improved since then.
Actually, SuperDacob notes in a recent vlog that he was amazed at how candid his SA was about the all around loss of leather quality chez Hermès. It apparently has a lot to do with chemicals added to the feed. He says that H has tried to get the other major luxury brands to join them and do something about it-to no avail. That sure explains what's going on with Chanel's huge drop in quality.

so true. I had to look these up NOKD (not our kind dear) and IYKYK (if you know you know) (LOL)
A a rule, I consider IYKYK kind of dressing is ridiculous, very pleased to move towards NNTKWIAWOHMIP (nobody needs to know what I am wearing or how much I paid) I just made that up actually and delighted that Hermes has lots of items produced in very small quantities that never make it into social media frenzy.

I try not to assume anything by what someone is driving or wearing tbh; I know we all have first-glance hasty opinions, but hopefully, most people can humanize, empathize, and understand their way past them, as people are not the sum of their belongings. And hopefully also have social and spatial awareness regarding when something is carried or worn. Probably an unpopular opinion as well? We all think differently, variety being the spice of life and all!
I was just going to say that a handbag says nothing about the person who carries it. It’s just a handbag. (And I love handbags! They still don’t tell anything about me, other than the fact that I have so many of them, because I’m obsessed about them.)

Not remotely off topic Unpopular Opinion:

I don't care how beautifully hand crafted Hermès is, it's become overexposed and boring. If I see one more carefully arranged, twilly wrapped array of candy colored mini Kellys ( accompanied of course by a perfectly manicured hand, Lamborghini steering wheel, and Cartier Clou/ Love bracelets, I will SCREAM, (and then I will YAWN.)

Thanks to social media, and endless aspirational overkill, Hermès has lost all semblance of true luxury and exclusivity. In my mind, the brand is very close to becoming the equivalent of high priced LV.

Whether the quality is there or not, all top luxury bag makers are now chasing H prices-hence the ridiculous increases at LV and Chanel. Hermès must then ridiculously raise THEIR prices to stay ahead of the game.

Peter Nitz (and perhaps Duret) may be the light at the end of the tunnel.

I do not want people staring at or asking me about my handbags. I do not want people to know how much my purse costs or to determine how much money I have by looking my handbag.

That is not luxury.
Wait! I want to know what city you are talking about??!!?? I have only ever seen one black mk in my city! I think ML’s might be an urban myth 🤭

Agree totally! But that is the opinion of most on TPF :) off to google NOKD lol

Even I would like to know! Having been to Tokyo and Manhattan in the past few weeks and I didn’t see even one Kelly anywhere except the H boutiques, forget MK.
Social media is not reality and I personally don’t follow any celebrities or handbag channels that have clickbait videos.

a den of vipers populated by scheming SAs and overrun by horrific customer service;

Is it really so bad that one can't get an extremely in-demand purse because one doesn't spend as much as a more long-term or loyal customer? I think that makes a lot of sense, speaking as someone who would never get offered a quota bag! What is with the outrage. No hate at all to a new customer who falls absolutely in love with the brand and WANTS to buy a ton of things - and conveniently bumps herself higher on the wait list - but I can't have any sympathy for people who feel like a hostage, forced to buy a bunch of stuff they don't want just to get that one bag. And gets so angry about it.

And gets so angry about it
This! It must be so tiring, anger consumes a lot of energy; I get exhausted just listening to it!

Unpopular opinion: I don’t like Orans. I don’t find them comfortable and are not flattering on my feet. It accentuates my pudgy looking toes and weird looking bones. Chypre are worse on my feet. I wish they made more shoes with a slight heel. 2-3 inches is ideal for me. All the shoes are either flat or platform high. I have only seen a few that are mid height and my size is always sold out. I prefer leather and not canvas sneakers. I don’t want the H logo on them. Ok it sounds like I need to move on to another brand for shoes as H is obviously not fulfilling my needs in this department.

Yes, that's what it sounds like & am one of the many(!) who like Orans especially because
they are flattering & comfortable on my narrow feet.
Not a fan of the Chypre but have seen people wear them well,,
Everything is just really a matter of opinion.. we all are entitled to like what we like.. LOL

Ahhh yes, that might be it. My feet are ‘pudgy’. They are also thick (vertically) if that makes any sense. So not my category at H. That’s ok. I am glad they work for you. At least I am one less customer you need to compete with for in-demand models. 😉
