Joining you in the grumpy and cynical corner. Might be crowded soon and the post becomes a popular opinion hahaha.
On one hand, I agree. It seems like if you need to ask a bunch of strangers on the internet if you should drop some serious coin on a bag then maybe you don’t actually really want it? On the other hand, I have seen a lot of bags online that *look* good but might be iffy bets (beat up vintage etc) and kind of would like the opinion of some knowledgeable strangers who have no vested interest in whether I buy a bag or not.

Fair point, asking for experience with a particular style or the difference in the way light plays on two (or more) similar colors makes sense. But ‘Hey stranger (on the other side of the globe), should I buy this (very expensive) handbag?’ is just weird. It’s not like you’re trying on hats and asking the random person next to you who’s also trying on hats for an opinion….

This completely - it's one thing to, for example, ask if that slightly cracked vintage box Kelly is going to be worthwhile or not. It's another to ask a forum whether or not you should buy a bag on offer. I firmly believe that if you have to ask, you don't really want it, and you're just afraid you're going to miss out on an opportunity. Only you know if you want that bag; if you're having to ask other people, you either want them to hype you up or tell you no, and that's not a good way to make a large financial decision.

There are always more bags; they are just bags.

Here’s my latest unpopular opinion, clients who lament their level of prespend with impetuous attitudes expecting sympathy from others on sm platforms. “I have spent 3:1, 4:1, 5:1 with my sa and I still don’t have a bag! I bought Rtw, jewelry yada yada. Maybe I should switch sas!” But then you see they’ve listed much of their prespend on FB or other places. Don’t have much sympathy for those who play these kinds of games. Hope your sa continues to string you along while laughing all the way to the bank.

I wonder if sometimes it’s bc they’ve caught on to the fact they’re a reseller. I mean….Why not keep stringing that person along to make the bag extremely unprofitable.

I find H scarves very difficult to style. I usually find scarves from LV or Gucci easier to style because of the even monogram rather than uneven print on H scarves.

Also i find that poeple know more and better ways to wear a scarf than H does. Some of the ways H model the scarves are beyond ridiculous, like cmon no one’s going to wear a scarf that way.

I'm starting to find the issue around pre-spends and spending to recieve bag offers really distasteful these days.
I'm a little nausated by the questions like "how much did you spend to get this offer?" or "I spent 3-1" "Is my spend too low?" etc etc etc..
Even seeing a topic headed "what to spend money on when theres nothing to buy" gave me the ick.
simple..if theres nothing to buy then why spend for the sake of it???
Oh! I get it...to keep on the radar of ones SA and get a bag offer!...silly me.
Some people seem to loose their sanity when it comes to Hermes and I find that sad and disturbing.
No wonder there is a glut of Hermes watches and jewellery on the resale market.
I find myself wondering how many of those who spend spend spend on 'stuff' to chase a bag offer will look back in 5/10/15 years time and think "ugh! what was I thinking of? I could have spent more wisely..I SHOULD have spent more wisely"

Yep. When one looks at how much they have spent to date, they could have done a kitchen remodel or a whole home remodel. You could have spent two weeks at a 5 star resort and had an amazing trip with lots of neat experiences, etc. you could have adopted an elderly member of your family to pay their monthly utilities since they are on a fixed budget… That’s when you have the eye opening realization on asking what is it worth? Do you really have dinners at home where you use the fine china? Maybe two, three bags is ok, but when is enough enough? Are you really buying it an an investment? Most consignment stores take 50-70% of profit, so what did you really earn in the end? Hmm…

Of course you’re right, but it’s also important to remember that this is a forum dedicated to a frivolous pursuit/hobby, which necessarily presents only one dimension of forum members’ lives. JMO

So true @maxroxxherhandbags . Even worse is when people spent all that money buying things they don’t want and are offered bags in specs they don’t want and feel pressure to take them because they are “lucky” to get an offer.

I should also say some people love to shop and buy whatever they like and happen to like it all. I have no judgement on that at all. Their money and their choice. But I also hope for the people who buy what they don’t want, they are eyes wide open in that decision and happy with it.

My unpopular opinion is some SAs string out bag offers for people they know will keep spending.

my unpopular opinion when I read about SAs stringing along buyers, I think, 'Good for them.'

I REALLY hope this doesn't get deleted for being "off topic." I think we should be able to post comments that are relevant when context is taken into consideration. "Unpopular Hermès Opinion" covers a lot of ground.

That said, many here have commented on how the Kelly and Birkin, (and the Hermès brand in general) have been tarnished by the company's incessant gamesmanship. Factor in crazy stuff like 'STARTER" bags, rampant bag snobbery and hierarchy, and out of control social media flexing. Voila! you've got one eye rolling, bored former Hermès lover here.

I also think it's relevant and not off topic to mention that this mass defection from Birkins and Kellys has happened before. From about 2005 to 2010, New York socialites (remember THEM?) got tired of seeing Birkins and Kellys on the arms of Hollywood D listers. They responded by ordering exotic skin Bespoke Eburys en masse. I don't think the backlash lasted too long, but it was a real thing for a while. I'm not a NYC socialite, but I too hopped on the bandwagon. I'm glad I that I did. That bag is looking really good to me now.
(When I referred to "Starter H bags", I meant the relatively recent attitude among certain Hermès collectors that some H bags are superior to others, just by virtue of their price.)

Yes sometimes, but also SAs are not dumb. Those kinds of clients must not realize that it’s not that hard to tell when someone is buying a bunch of random things that don’t even match their personal style or lifestyle. They can tell when someone is not being genuine, especially when people buy so much stuff and the items are never to be seen again 😭

A random thought that occurred to me: The customers work for H's SAs, not the other way around. They are the ones helping SAs hit targets in certain categories, they are the ones hunting for the items they want online and taking that info to SAs to place the order, they are the ones stressing about finding stock and working around corporate policies.
Baffling how this role reversal has become acceptable, nay, desirable.
