My love of handbags started in the "1978" in the 9th grade. I had to have Etienne Aigner handbag, wallet and belt. Back then the purse was $200 and a pretty good penny for the time. I loved that bag! By the 10th grade I had convinced by boyfriend to buy me the wallet for my birthday. He actually hid the wallet in his car and gave me another gift. I was polite but disappointed. 2 hours later he told me to go look in his car because my "real" gift was in the glovebox. I was on cloud nine. You have to remember he was in high school and working as a dishwasher at a steak place. So, he had to save his money to buy me the wallet.
Fast forward to "1988", by now the BF is long gone and I lost all my prized possessions in a house fire.
I really hadn't lost my most beloved items "my children" and thankful we were not home at the time. So, for awhile I just carried "whatever". By "2000" - my DH bought me a
Coach handbag as a surprise X-Mas gift . I was now "back in the game"!
2007 my DH upped the ante and surprises me with Louis Vuitton. I have acquired a few more since then ( all gifts from DH). LV is my favorite but I have a few others sprinkled in (Versace, Tory Burch, Micheal Kors, Coach & several vintage bags from the 30's, 40's, &50's.
2014 my children are grown men & everyone knows if the house goes up in flames you grab the dog and "mom's Louie's"!!! All kidding aside, I have learned that there is more to life than personal possessions!
As time goes by, I have reflected over my life and realize how much BF (of the time) sacrificed to purchase me that wallet. Neither of us were born with silver spoons in our mouth. I'm sure he has made a wonderful husband to a fabulous lady.
I know my DH is the love of my life. I am thankful to have a man that understands my love for "my handbag". He's the 1st to cover it in a downpour or to ask for a extra chair in a restaurant for my purse to sit. BUT with or without LV I will love him forever!
