There are less expensive silver tiaras out there. I have seen some really pretty Napoleon III ones for example in antique shops.
If only I had a daughter:lol:
Big ticket items in the longterm:
- Victorian (ideally) convertible all diamonds tiara with detachable/exchangeable (for earrings, pendant and brooches) top precious stones (diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires) and pearls
- Evening all diamonds wristwatch/bangle Calibre 101 from JLC

I probably won't get any of those before I retire as those cost in the hundred of thousands and the tiara is really hard to find (I wouldn't trust a recent jeweller to modify an existing one so it needs to already be convertible with detachable top stones).

See quick examples (but the best exchangeable/detachable ones belong to HM Queen Máxima of the Netherlands)

For the Calibre 101 - I am honestly not picky, any design will do !

Like Limom said, for Victorian, you’re probably going to be looking at silver-topped gold.

The tiara that Pss Mary is wearing is in your pictures is something she purchased in the early 2010s, and I believe she paid about $15k for it. It did have some missing stones and she had to have the frame made for it but, it’s not too dear.

M.S. Rau in New Orleans did just get a Napoleonic tiara in that is convertible and in brilliant condition - but I’d rather dear. Bentley and Skinner is making new tiaras in the 50k-110k range, as is Chaumet. They also have antique in their collection, and have the skill and experience to work on tiaras

It’s a gorgeous piece!
I do recall from the SA that it cannot be polished due to how it is made (similar to the guilloche), so that may be an issue to consider.
Though maybe could be sent in for repairs?
Oh no, thats a bummer! I recall in another thread that @EpiFanatic mentioned they could re-do the macri effect if its scratched up.. i dropped an email to buccellati.. lets wait on their reply

I love the lacey effect on their rings as well ! So gorgeous (off my mind i cant recall the name of the series, jus had some red wine over a late dinner lol)

How do you decide on what you’re buying next? Availability/gaps on your collection/whims? We all have our lists but how do you decide on what to cross next on that list?

Very good question! I was quite spontaneous + fast when I started. I like rings the most and the price point ~5 years ago wasn't too bad, so I accumulated my ring collection.
Then I went onto bracelets. (was quite uncertain about this in the beginning, wasn't sure if I would feel comfortable with things on my wrist, never really wore a bracelet before; so it took a lot of thinking)
I'm not much of a necklace person (I have one and I wear it everyday) and I have a tendency to lose earrings so those are both a no for me lol.
I have a couple of watches, and I've realized that while I love looking at watches, I tend to just stick with one and it just stays. It's similar with fine jewelry for me, I tend to wear the same pieces over and over again, so it takes a while before wanting a new piece atm.

Nowadays, I'm more into RTW than fine jewelry and bags. I do have things on my wishlist but I don't really have the urge to buy. (which probably tells me I don't want it badly enough yet or it's not within my current budget.)

My most recent piece was instinctive. I tried it on once, went back to the store the next day, and bought it, the Buccelatti, even though it's technically not fine jewelry lol.

Despite having the tendency to leave things (clothes, bags, shoes, etc.) on my wishlist for a long time, I feel that with jewelry I am the most spontaneous and instinctive. Not as fast or as many purchases as before, but I definitely listen to my heart when it comes to putting my money down. :P

I am quite glad that even though I bought a lot more earlier on, I am still very happy and love wearing my pieces to this day. Hopefully that means my instincts are on point in terms of longevity lol.

I keep a curated list and every year I decide on just a few pieces from the list that I will get that year as. This keeps me in check to not be spontaneous or spend money on items outside of my wishlist or the need to rush to complete my list.

On the items that I do decide to buy I look for things where I have gaps or feel like couple key items are missing. I was lucky that my first designer item was a Chanel handbag, which I brought after keeping a very strict goal of only working towards that. I did not buy a single expensive item that was over £200 during that period. 6 months later I brought a Dior handbag spontaneously which to date is my best purchase, but since then I decided I needed to keep a list as my circumstances had changed. I have always been frugal so wanted to still be that way. I also choose not to have designer items in every category, for clothing or shoes I buy from Zara or H&M. I noticed a couple years ago that I was spending £100 or £200 on clothing easily so decided to keep a list of items where there are also gaps in clothing and shoes. I love Jewellery but prefer to buy from understated brands and only have a couple items designer ones which makes it easier to budget.

My next item is a summer handbag as it’s around the corner and summer Jewellery piece. my advice would be to get the item that you’re thinking about the most, which will likely be the most expensive item, even if it’s double or triple the cost of other items, aim for that otherwise you’ll never get there.

I have gone a$$-backward into jewelry collecting and done almost everything wrong so … don’t do like I have. Or do, but don’t blame me if you make expensive mistakes.

I love vintage. It’s my absolute favorite type of jewelry. I like the workmanship, the quality of stones, the stories. I spent thousands of dollars to buy hundreds of pieces that are close to but not what I want. The problem is, with vintage, you have to move decisively when a piece becomes available in your price range.

Same here. It is hard to resist a unique piece.

I just realized I hit reply before I answered the question.

My list is now more by the feel of the item rather than a specific brand, ect:

Gold
  • heavy chain necklace (Bunny Mellon’s Bulgari, with or without the stones, or Schlumberger circle rope, or lengthen 18k and Diamond spiky)
  • Cartier cactus?

Pearls
  • Multi strand with lavish clasp
  • Pearl enhancers / charms for Diamond studs (or Pearl and Diamond earrings)

Diamonds
  • brooch (floral or abstract. Duette?)
  • DBTY scatter?!? (36” or 24” AND 36)
  • diamond line drop earring
  • Rivière ?!? Or amethyst …

I set aside a certain percentage of each paycheck for jewelry/RTW/bags/travel and buy when the piece and money are both available.

Good question! For me personally, I have only recently fallen in love with jewelry at 43 years old, so I am making up for lost time, lol! Most of my pieces are nonbranded sterling silver or 14k gold, and unfortunately the designer bug has hit me and I want to replace any items I’m so-so about with items I love. Within that, I will prioritize items I can look at and enjoy easily.

Earlier this year I checked off my desire for an everyday necklace with a Cartier D’Amour.

Next on my priority list is a beautiful right hand ring, since I can look down at my hands any time.

After that, a beautiful gold bangle or bracelet for everyday, but can be dressed up (maybe a Cartier small love?)

Further down the line, a more statement necklace (no idea on style yet), then statement earrings (Cartier Clash or Tiffany hardware?)

I’ve just taken possession of sonmething sent to me on my Boodles wishlist-
Cullinan diamond GIA 1.07ct DVS2 pearshape diamond with Argyle pinks in platinum petal setting.

I’ll be paying the lay-by on this for the next year but have plenty of plans for what to buy after this!

I am a magpie. I LOVE jewelry, but sadly I keep getting distracted by things other than on my mental wish list and therefore they are continually out of reach!
But after reading these posts I think I shall set up a special savings fund and keep a physical “list” handy to stay on track!
Here are the few on my list right now:
4 photo lockets from Monica Rich Kosan, silver eagle cuff from The Great Frog, gold medallions from Jane Win, and gold charms from Lionheart Jewelers.

Well my wish list has changed! Got feedback about Lionheart jewelry and it wasn’t that great, and I have already calmed down about the whole “Foundrae” chain/charm look.
I still want a locket from Monica Rich Kosan, that hasn’t changed. I have never seen/ tried one so I am simply going off of internet images.
I still want the silver eagle cuff from The Great Frog, but wide cuffs are impractical for me, especially since most of the year it is hot sticky in Alabama so I might push that further down the list. Not sure how much I would honestly wear it. I have never seen/tried one, so who knows unless I do so?
I have definitely added a Cartier Love cuff to my wishlist in rose gold; I may still consider a small love, but I really love the ease of removal with the cuff. After getting the opportunity to try it on, I love it.
I am eyeballing the Tiffany T1 ring, the T1 bracelet narrow, and the Lock bracelet. Next month I will be able to visit Tiffany to try these on and see what I think.
I have definitely added a Verlas La Fleur bangle to my wishlist. It’s a beautiful alternative to the OG Love bangle without the use of screws. I have only seen it on their online shop, but they offer a service that allows you to try on base metal replicas before you make your final selection. Plus, they have frequent sales at 20-30% off which makes it very affordable.
I am focusing more on rings and bracelets for my pieces right now. I will check back in a few months to see if I changed my mind again haha!

Revised
Blue sapphire ring - oval three stone round sides or vintage style halo
Ruby ring - cushion three stone round sides
Pink sapphire ring - round three stone either round or pear sides
Emerald ring - alt diamond/emerald band

Glad to now have everyday silver studs as well a lovely pair of diamond studs gifted to me. Came across a dainty vintage rhr of my mother’s that I look forward to wearing once replated.
I need a platinum wedding ring. My current temp is a 2mm plain silver court while I decide but I’m wondering whether to just go simple 2-2.5mm platinum court band or up the look with engravings/stones etc.

My e ring is a 3ct solitaire and I don’t wear it every day but I never take off my wedding band so it is the main one.

Any advice ladies?

I try to fill any gaps I have. Of course by now all my gaps are imaginary, LOL. I like variety and focus on everyday jewelry, because special occasion pieces only get worn on special occasions and those for me are far in between, so I don’t get bored with those pieces.
It is very important for me to look nice every day, and my jewelry is a big part of that.
The thing for me is that my list keeps growing as I cross items off of it :D
Whenever I feel that I will be content, something else is added to my list! I think I should stop looking at jewelry!
