What started your bag addiction

I can remember carrying cute little straw purses when I was a little girl. It started because I needed something to carry my doll in, her name was Peaches. As I got older, having a bag just stuck with me. I never felt completely dressed until I had the right bag. When I was in high school I worked part-time at two department stores. With the discount I was able to purchase my first coach and D&B. That's when I learned it's worth investing in a good handbag. Now, everyone who knows me knows I LOVE me some purses!!!

My addiction started at a young age when I was in high school, they weren't designer brands, most of them less than 100$. And then I fell in love with Matt and Nat bags which was around 100 - 200$ which was "expensive" for a high school student. My addiction escalated when I got my first MBMJ bag from my wonderful boyfriend last Christmas. I am now not a broke university student, but a working professional (a Registered Nurse), I don't make a lot of money but decent enough to indulge myself in a couple MBMJs and Red Valentino's if they are on sale. :D

I've always loved leather - shoes and jackets, so as soon as I was old enough to need a handbag I got interested - although I made several mistakes along the way, I'm happy with my current collection, although I haven't achieved my dream bag yet...:)

Ten years ago my ex bought me a custom Anya Hindmarch be-a-bag and it kick started my addiction with high end bags!!! My 3yr old keeps crayons in one of my older LV bags - I think I may have passed on my obsession to her already!!!

I've carried a handbag/purse since I was 4 yrs old lol. My mom was very prim & proper and carrying a handbag/purse is a must for a lady. I got my first designer D&B handbag in 3rd grade, Coach in Jr. High, LV & Gucci in highschool, my first Chanel in college. Been a handbag snob ever since...

I got some smaller Coach things as presents, but only when I saw a multicolore pouchette at a thrift store (didn't turn out to be real) did I discover TPF and start doing some actual research/keeping up with sales. After that I bought a Longchamp Planetes and then a MBMJ Hillier hobo. Who knows where it'll go from here?

As a child, we holidayed every year in the South of France, and would drive over to Spain for one day for my mum to buy leather handbags and my dad a new wallet.

I had my first "grown up" leather handbag at 14 and haven't looked back since!

At 25 when I bought my first designer, real leather bag at 25 after starting a new job n New York. It felt like a good time.
My commute to work was long and I spent lots of time in the city after work. My handbag was my best friend and holding everything that was important during a long day.

Accessories have always been a passion. maybe 25 years now. ....never a fit issue. You can take a basic outfit and jazz it up with little thought or effort. Style is all about ease and figuring out what works on you. Accessories are easy. Bags are big fun.

My interest is fairly new, my mom & DH have always gifted me handbags in the past, but I didn't really pay attention to them. They were "just bags". Utilitarian means to lug my things around. IYKWIM...

Then my mom gifted me a Furla Amazzone tote & gushed about how she had to hold on to it in the store, what with it being the last piece. Then DH got me a Kate Spade Quinn Wellesley. And I slowly, slowly fell into the trap. Another Kate Spade was followed closely by a Coach Madison... followed by a crazy shopping spree in Florence... and then I sign-up for tpf, the biggest enabler of all :p

PS1 was the first designer bag that actually hooked me on this crazy bag collection since last year. Until now I already got one Chole, one PS1, one PSII, one Twiggy Balanciaga, one Long Champ, one Nightingale Givenchy, one Mulberry Alexa and the most recent addition is BV!
My credit card is bursting but still have eyes on Miu Miu clutch, Givenchy Antigona and Chanel Boy! The texture and quality as well as amazing design is soooo wonderful that it is hard to find satisfying non-designer hand bags now, but just looking at my small collection is such a great feeling. Although I have to start resisting it now.

I started my bag addiction when I was in middle school at a private all girls school which meant we had uniforms and could only show off and compete with others through bags or shoes but if you wore the same pair of shoes it somehow wasn't as cool as wearing a bag over again. Into highschool I had been buying low end (forever 21) with my own money, I started being gifted more expensive bags by my mother (MK mirror grayson, kate spade satchel) which ended up being returned as I couldn't justify bringing a bag like that to school where it was impractical.
Also bags became my obsession since they helped with my body issues, a bag comes in a defined size, no XS-XL sizings or vanity sized clothing to make people feel better. A bag can't tell me that I gained 5 lbs and have to switch into another to feel more comfortable.

Here in Denmark, we sometimes have outlets, where everything from really bad plasticy shoes to designer goods are sold. About 6 years ago I went to one of those and spotted a beautiful, soft, italian leather bag. It was down 80% and I jumped at it! From then on I have been in love with bags!!!

I have both no name bags and a few midrange bags (Roberto Uggari (the aforementioned italian leather bag), See by Chloé, Marc by Marc Jacobs and McQ by Alexander McQueen) and one higher end bag (my prescious Marc Jacobs bag). And right now I am eyeing yet another bag on sale, which better not be sold out next month :D .
Finding TPF has been amazing! None of my friends really care particularly about bags, so it's so nice to read about and see pictures of gourgeous bags in here.

And collegechic, I really know what you mean! Over the last years I have gained quite a few pounds, and the bags still fit where none of the clothes do (and I even find some of the bags to be slimming.)

I've loved bags since high school in the 80s, but have always had to keep a tight lid on my urges. No idea what triggered it. I did go a little crazy the past couple of months and bought three preowned bags -- a Chanel, LV and vintage Coach that I found for great prices. But that's it for me for a long while. Practicality and finances are back in charge.
