My dad is the one in the family who enjoys shopping, so he started the obsession.

A few years ago for my 21st birthday, my father wanted to take me to a Coach Outlet and buy me my first Designer Bag.

He purchased me a Gold Poppy Storypatch Glam Tote, which I still Have and Love. It actually still looks brand new.
Ever since then I buy handbags all the time! I'm addicted to them! :sunshine:

My dad too!!
I wanted a Dooney & Bourke so bad when I was in HS (in the late 80s/early 90s) But he refused to spend money on one so he got me a Coach instead. I didn't get it because they were very close in price, but he had all these little reasons. He didn't like the D&B logo. He preferred the glove tanned leather to the "All Weather Leather." He thought the Coach would last longer because it was so anonymous...
It was such a revelation to me that there were so many things to consider!
I think until that point I always just went with whatever I liked that was trendy.

When I was in kindergarten, there were these purses that had little umbrellas that attached to the back of them, lots of girls had them. They were very colorful; they were for kids of course. I wanted one of those so badly.....I finally got one for Christmas. I loved that little thing; you could take the umbrella out of the slot in the back and pop it open if it rained....oh I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Not sure if anyone else ever had one these; I just turned 50 so this would have been in the mid 1960's. I've been obsessed ever since. I remember a bright shiny pink pocketbook my grandmother gave on my 7th birthday and I remember a kit to make your own purse that my dad gave me probably around 8th or 9th birthday....I also had a bright orange shiny wristlet that I loved when I was little.....and a tiny suede-fringed and beaded bag.....

It started rather slowly...
A black crossbody coach (bought at Singapore changi airport at 30% discount) in 2006...
Then a black patent leather MK from my road trip that ended in New York...
Then a grey straw-leather Fransesco Biasia in 2008 to mark my promotion to junior partner in my firm....

Then it moved to new horizon....

A dove grey double zip Prada Saffiano Tote bought in Hong Kong mid 2011 to mark my promotion to Partner (my friend call this my 'partner' bag) and I thought that 'this will be the only premium designer bag for many years to come'... Boy, I was wrong...

An LV Neverfull DE MM I bought after coming back from maternity leave - my mom got a crazy idea "lets check out the premium designer shops so we won't be tempted to buy - it will be absurdly expensive" - worst idea - don't try this at home! :) this started my LVoe for LV...

An LV Speedy B DE after a rather tiring break and a series of tough client meetings (2 months after I bought my Neverfull)...

An LV Monogram pochette just last week - after another tough client interactions.... (Now I really think I should stop serving this client because they are so tough that I think about shopping after every meeting with the senior guy)... ;)

And let's see how it goes.... Writing this makes me nostalgic... :)

When I was younger I was always buying bags and I think it had to do with my OCD - everything had to be organized and I loved organizing all the little things that would go into the different compartments. I would buy no name ones of course, and they were usually messenger bags (I guess it fit my lifestyle at the time. Being in school and going to private school you don't really have a lot of places to go, or a need to buy clothes). When I graduated highschool, Guess bags were THE bags to own and I obsessed over them - I bought my first one when I graduated and it seemed like big deal at the time.

During my univ days I would look on ebay and I was introduced to the world of Gucci and LV and other premium designers. I still continued to buy bags but nothing that cost more than maybe $50. My first 'designer' item was a black Coach skinny that I found at the outlets and THAT tiny item took my obsession to a whole other level.

When I graduated Univ, I bought a Gucci one pocket belt bag (not the two pocket one that everyone has) and was gifted by an ex bf, a Burberry wallet, Coach wallet and ipod holder. At the time I felt like that was all I needed even though I kept looking - I was content.

Then I got my first grown up job and the rest is history.... I now own about 42 bags ranging from Coach, Burberry, Gucci (my fave!), Miu Miu, Kate Spade, RM...and the list goes on... I still take my first Guess bag out and look at it from time to time though =)

I love this !!!

I totally remember those umbrella bags! I think my little sister had one with yellow polka dots! Was your make-your-own-purse kit one of those cute Tandy Leather ones? I always wanted one!

Well. I have been in love with designer handbag for few years but i started buying designer handbag from Last year July. I started buying from some average price LV bag like speedy 25, 30 or neverfull. All the bag are under $1000 each for last year. I was thinking to have more average price designer handbag at that time. Now, i prefer to have few bag which i usually use but all the bag are more than $1000 now. The most expensive i have is Lady Dior $3700 >.< my mind change in only 1 year and i feel like the money i am willing to spent to buy bags increased over and over again

I've always liked wallets and bags. But I guess it all really started with my bags breaking and looking ugly after about 6 months, maybe because I put heavy stuff in it all the time.. so then I started to look for higher quality bags that still look nice and can last forever. Ofcourse, this was just an excuse to look for nice, expensive bags and give myself some form of justification as to WHY I should even consider buying it haha

I almost bought the LV neverfull but everyone seemed to have it. So I bought a Prada instead.. :P

I bought a Gucci tote bag in 2003 for $499 with one of my first big paychecks from my first job out of college. Then I got an LV Speedy, a Dior pochette, was on the wait list for the Dior Girly Boston bag for 3 months! Was on another wait list for the Carrie Bradshaw Gucci waist bag and another Gucci drawstring hobo. A burberry pochette
and satchel. Lastly, 2 very colorful Prada nylon bags. Lol, all in 6 months! Was it obvious that I was still living with my parents? Shopping was my drug and still is!
