What started your bag addiction

I remember when I was turning 13 and I had to have a nylon Guess backpack purse for my birthday. I watched girls in my high school carry Kate Spades I could not afford, then in college, I bought myself a Dooney and a Coach or two.

THEN, I joined tpf and bought my first LV and Gucci. What really put me over the top, though, was my obsession with RM (probably went through 20). Now I'm moving onto YSL-- dangerous!

This is a totally fun thread! I was getting ready to start high school and realized that what handbag I carried mattered to me as much as my clothes, which suprised me at the time! I remember searching all through high school for the "perfect" purse, and never quite finding it. I'd buy trendy handbags (never designer) that other's were carrying, but never anything I fell in love with.
When I went on to college, someone I lived with was carrying a Louis Vuitton Speedy and a matching wallet and I fell in LOVE! I went home for spring break, went downtown to the Neiman Marcus that was there at the time and bought my first speedy and matching wallet. I loved that purse to death and carried it for years. I also fell in love with a brand called MCM (i think?)
I then got married and went on to have children and left designer handbags behind until a few years ago. I fell hard for a Balenciaga and the addiction started again. I also fell for Chloe and YSL along the way. My newest addiction has turned full circle and I'm back to loving Louis again!

Oh Joy I'm so glad to have started this thread, I feel that this question & everyone's responses allows me to get know y'all & find out that we have so much in common not only in loving bags but how we got into them, & what we like (both in bags & beyond)!

I had the page where I left off bookmarked in my favorites & just got done reading all he post that occured after my leaving. I have not been on TPF in a while because as I said before & like many of you, I enjoy collecting a few different things & move back & forth between obsessions, I still love bags but now I am going to enjoy them & try not to buy anymore until after I'm done saving for a natural canary yellow diamond (I love & am interested in diamonds so much that I want to pursue an education through the GIA to earn a diplopma as a Gemologist or a diamond grader). After that purchase, I'm sure I will resume my pursuit of crossing bags off my wish-list. :p

At first, I didn't care for the designer purses.. until my cousin recently started showing me different types of designers, their clothing style, handbag style.. now I cannot stop looking at handbags. When I recently found tpf, my handbag obsession took off :roflmfao:

Elementary school for me. I'm 35 now so it was quite a long time ago. I remember saving up money for my first liz claiborne and then dooney after that. I next got hooked into coach and it has been down hill or up hill after that.... LV, gucci, chanel, balenciaga, etc.

Exactly. Except my bag obsession stopped for awhile but was renewed when I came across TPF and purchased my first Treesje. Now I have 3 RM's as well and am saving for a Bal.

My grandmother worked at a Liz Clairborne outlet when she moved down south (she always loved clothes and said it would be a great way to make friends with women who did as well), and for my birthday in 6th grade, I got a small leather Liz Clairborne purse...nothing too fancy, but as a 6th grade girl I was amazed. I actually remember hearing the "popular" girls at the time whispering in art class "Lovelysarahg has a REAL purse!" :D

My addiction continued into high school, developing into different phases: the Coach phase, the Dooney & Bourke phase, the (I regret to say) Ed Hardy phase, and finally, when my mom bought one for herself, the Louis Vuitton phase. Right now I'm dreaming of a Birkin, but that seems very unlucky until I graduate college.

My grandma got me into just bags in general- her philosophy was that I should have a purse for each season. And since I was always overweight- right between shopping at Torrid (cute teenish plus size store), and normal teen boutiques, it was hard for me to shop, so I turned to bags. And when I was 15, I started going to the Coach outlet once a year, where I could get a bag or 2, so I loved having real bags while many others had Chinatown fakes. And then I found tpf and blog, and got more into Coach, and discovered Tokidoki, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and L.A.M.B. And I admire pricer brands from afar- but I may be getting a Speedy as a college grad gift (but if I do, I'm paying for part of it).

Lol, I started with Dooney, along time ago, then Coach, then Gucci, then Louis Vuitton & I thought I'd take a break from bags this yr to fulfill my New Yrs. resolution, which is to get a big canary diamond. I just recently bought an Ed Hardy bag cuz I accidentially ran in to them & Target & thought Oh, this is cute, why not? It will be a fun rainy day bag for when I can't or don't want to carry my more expensive bags. It kinda is my style :p. When I'm shopping for handbags, Ed Hardy isn't the 1st thing that comes to mind but some of the EH clothes & shoes are cute & fun. If I need a cheap lil' stand in bag for those occasions when it's appropriate, I'd rather have an Ed Hardy bag than a cheap, plain, bag anyday! :smile1:

great thread, for me it started when i was given a LV agenda i used it everyday for 8 months. i fell in love after one day and saved my money so i could buy my first LV bag for my 18th bday and i got the bellevue Pm in amarante, when you start you just cant turn back lol

just a desire for a high-end designer bag. up until then i only had coach bags. i was looking for something nicer, and was eyeing burberry. but instead i ended up getting a louis vuitton. and that's how it started~~
