What started your bag addiction

For me, it started when I was going to graduate from college, and I thought to myself, what kind of bag should I get to bring to work and internships? So I got my first ever nice bag (Botkier Jackie satchel! Previously I had a couple of coaches which I got from the outlet mall, and trust me, they were all the ugliest authentic coaches available because I had such lousy taste back then! I think these bags have been given away since then..), and I was so happy with it, and googling more about bags, I also found about TPF, and made it my home. Since then I've been hooked on purses, and I'm also glad to say, my taste in bags has gotten better with exposure to more brands/styles etc :)

Mine started when I was around 15 yrs with Coach. I'm from a small town in Indiana where NO ONE knows anything about designer so i used to look forward to my trips to NY and LA each year to visit my fashionable aunts. I guess I could say they got me addicted to everything designer. By the time I was out of high school I was onto LV for college and it hasn't stopped there. I know live in LA and I'm huge into MJ and Chanel. I'm always searching for the my new love in a bag!!! :cloud9:

My two very fashionable aunts got me hooked on bags. Some of my best hand-me-down bags were from them (as well as some great shoes)- LV, Gucci, Ferragamo. When I was younger, I always aspired to dress like them- so well put together & fashionable. Now I am just addicted!!! :p

Hi, I'm Lisa and I'm a bag addict! My mother got me started. She never had designer bags but she used to bring me home Fendi's and Gucci's all the time. Her weird obsession was my delightful gain! I keep switching my purse addiction for designer to designer. I'm currently on a Coach kick. I recently found out that I am near an outlet and have secretly been visiting once a week. They also have a Michale Kors store, Dooney Burke and Juicy. Oh for the love of God help!!!!! :) Well back to my thoughts of the new Poppy does plaid!!!!

I have had a bag addiction ever since I was in the 7th grade....uh, some, 36 years ago....maybe....
But the closest I came to a designer until I was 18 was Etienne Aigner! I still dont consider myself into "designer" bags - to me, those are in the FOUR figures, which I have yet to do...but I sure do think about it!
The bag addiction didnt begin with or because of a name...it began because I LOVE LEATHER!!! I LOVE IT!

For as long as I can remember I've loved bags. I remember when I was 5 or 6 my grandmother crocheted me a little handbag to keep my trinkets in. I carried bags to school in grade school even though none of the other girls did.

In my teens I made a few bags myself, and that gave me an appreciation for how difficult it really is to make a bag! There were a couple I remember from heavy leather that I painted with flowers...so cheesy, but hey, it was the 70's.

Through my 20s I couldn't spend a lot on bags, but I would go shopping for the "perfect" bag for a certain need. I invested a lot of time in finding the perfect backpack for school, the perfect handbag for my first job, etc. Some of my concerns were security because I am a heavy public transit rider and not all backpacks or bags are secure when standing in a crowd.

In my 30's I got into bespoke bags from local designers. I still have two of the bags that were custom designed for me, even though I don't use them much anymore. They're just beautiful, soft napa bags and I remember talking to the designers about what I wanted.

In my 40s I found tPF and developed a love for Hermes scarves. I don't care much for the styles of Hermes bags, but going into the boutique every week made me interested in quality handbags again. I have picked up a few Bottega Veneta bags -- IMO the quality is near-equal to Hermes.

I love to window shop, and I can delay the gratification of a purchase for a long time. My collection is small (about 6 bags and 3 high end clutches) but I enjoy and use almost every bag I have.

My mother loves all things designer, though her working-class immigrant background doesn't allow her to spend four figures on one bag. I bought her a gorgeous bespoke bag about 10 years ago that she still carries, and one of my sisters treated her to a Coach bag in the $500 range recently. She loves labels and shopping, and I suppose some of that rubbed off on me. When I was a child she used to drag me on these marathon shopping trips...I mean, 10 hours of shopping for a child of 7. I'm sure I was a brat in the stores, too. What was she thinking?

I have a couple of nieces in their 20s who love designer handbags, and I'll probably treat them to something special when they come to visit me for Thanksgiving. I already got each of them a BV bracelet to give them.

I've loved pretty things since I was a child (I have this thing for seams, buttons, zippers..) and was fortunate enough to have good bags growing up but I think I started buying them with a purpose after I bought my first LV monogram speedy maybe 9 years ago.

I didn't realize there was an entire community of people like me until I discovered TPF:heart:

I've always loved bags and have a closet full of them. Just in the last year I've begun paying more than $50 for them. I never ventured into more expensive bags because I always switched them out so often and never reused them. I just couldn't imagine spending much on them knowing their fate...

But, now I don't seem to have that same hang up! I haven't spent more than $350 on a bag yet, but I've bought 4 bags since April and love 3 of the 4. Funny, the first one that I bought I only used for a month before putting it away because it just wasn't *me*. My dh has encouraged me to sell it, but I'd rather give it to my mom... She probably wouldn't use it though simply because of the cost!
