what is your opinion of emerald-cut diamonds? not sparkly enough?

i think it depends on what your style is. i prefer the sparkle of emerald cuts (for erings anyway), but it's definitely a different type of sparkle. it's like looking into a deep pool of water on a sunny day.

in the end, it's really about what you like. if you don't think it's enough sparkle, it's probably not. however, if you really like the emerald cut but want more bling....maybe check out something with sidestones? i love the ones with micropave. best of both worlds. :smile1:

I have had my emerald cut diamong ring since 1965, I had to choose between size and cut at that time since Emerald cuts were more expensive than round cuts, I love mine, it is a 1-1/2 carats it was originally set in a tiffany setting with two baguettes, three years ago I had it reset on a wide platinum band with trilliants on either side, I am still so in love with it., it is a classic, gorgeous stone.

I think that ECs offer more of a glow than a sparkle as with a round cut. It's just a matter of personal taste. I think ECs are eternal, timeless, and above all -- VERY classy! You will look elegant no matter what with an EC on your hand!!!

I like emerald cuts, but only when the diamond has a decent size. I don't like them too small (under 1,5ct). Under 1,5ct I'd opt for round or princess...

A couple of months ago, I saw a number of emerald cuts at Sotheby's auction. Ultimately, I decided on round brilliants. When it comes to emeralds, I think it's very important to have (1) a high quality diamond (since the cut is less tolerant to flaws) and (2) a relatively large carat weight (the cut is plain and modern that size matters more so than other cuts). I wouldn't choose emeralds if the objective is the most bang for my bucks.

I love them, but I prefer them on the larger side (6+ cts or bigger).

An old friend of DH's has an 8ct emerald cut (center stone) flanked by 2 emerald cuts (I don't know their weight but they have to be more than 3cts each) and it's just stunning.

I've been shopping for an engagement, and my heart almost stopped when I tried on this gorgeous emerald-cut pave diamond ring. It has super micro pave around it...the craftmanship is absolutely amazing.

ITA with those who have said that nice emerald cut diamonds should be of higher quality, and that the round has more bling (I went for a round). I also agree that it's a personal preference, there's no wrong/right answer.

I DO love the thought of a pave "frame" around the emerald cut diamond... that would def add the bling factor that I love!

Also for consideration, it was important to me that my wedding band sit flush with my engagement ring... usually higher set stones can achieve this. I haven't seen an emerald cut diamond ring that can sit flush with a regular wedding band (meaning, not custom made to fit with the shape of the e-ring). Not sure how you feel about this, but it could play a part in your decision.
