What is the perfect evening/event bag?

Yeah, many people, bagaholics included, think that it's just a waste of money to buy a bag and not use it at all or much. However, I see a few of my bags as just collector's items in that they may be used very rarely or not at all, but are mine for the visual appeal. Plus, they're extremely hard to find, so I'm actually a lot happier with just hardly using them and having them more for display. It's not a waste of money or space at all to me in this sense.

I'm the same - I tend to buy bags as one would buy works of art and I particularly love clutches, as I love details and embellishment, so tend to love farly simple, uncomplicated lines that don't interfere, too much, with them.

Also, I find smaller bags, like clutches, tend to carry the details/embellishment better, without it looking too OTT.

I use them whenever I like, though - I don't wait for evening and certainly not for a special occasion. :nogood:

I might do with a Leiber, perhaps (if I had one!), but practically anything else I find you can mix and match with more casual, dark and/or earthy clothes and footwear; which tone down any excess bling factor nicely. :D

Maybe you subconsciously really want to go to more fancy evening events, and so you purchase lots of evening bags.

I'm trying to sort out my issues right now. I am a stay at home mom who really does stay at home a lot and yet I have a zillion purses. I think I want to stay at home less LOL!!! I've always wanted to travel and have adventures, so maybe purchasing all these bags, in part, has been a way for me to express my desire to go more places. Maybe I can't go to China for a month-long holiday, but I can take a day trip into Chinatown!!

I'm the same - I'm obsessed with clutches and they tend to be best in gorgeous embellished evening styles. I have purchased to date:

1. YSL Muse clutch in black satin with gold hardware;
2. Fendi Borderline clutch in navy satin with gold hardware and crystal embellishment;
3. YSL cigarette case in black satin with silver lighter detail;
4. Navy embellished pochette - no name, picked up in a local boutique.

I'm considering buying:

1. LV Mono Motard minaudiere in chrome AND purple;
2. BV Impero satin clutch in black.

Yet I have absolutely no need for two new evening clutches - but I am obsessed with them.

I display my clutches and evening bags on a shelf in my closet and enjoy them every day. I have used each of them at least once but that doesn't count as lots of use in my book! I think I might just have to go out more...

That's definitely it! I want the social life to match my handbag collection!!!

^ Me too!

I always end up buying beautiful clutches ad bags that I cannot wear to work, for example.

I promised myself that the next bag will be a work bag, so fingers crossed that I can keep my promise :rolleyes:.

I'm in the same boat!! I keep buying Judith Leiber bags, and Nancy Gonzalez clutches. I think in my mind I'm using them....to Charity events, out for dinner, black tie events, weddings, etc. I used to be very active in the community, but not for several years,..........but I think I still am!!!!!Does that make sense?

You buy so many evening bags for the same reason I buy so many tubes of lip gloss in similar colors. Thanks goodness my bad habit is cheaper than yours!

:p

I too have this problem. I do wear mine with a more casual look, like heels, jeans, and a cute top -- just not often enough. Still I love them.

I love clutches - I keep them in a glass display cabinet just so I can enjoy them as art! It's how I justify my purchasing.

I think our handbags reflect the life we want to live - for me, I get in trouble buying luggage. I don't need near as much luggage as I own. And yet, a really cute, rugged piece comes along - it has pockets, or no wrinkle cubes, or a built in garment bag. Next thing you know, I "need" it. But I've cut my traveling by 75%... I don't need anything new

Hi Ladies'

I have finally got my day bags sorted but these are too casual to use if I'm going to the cinema, out to lunch or dinner or out with friends and family for drinks.

Is there a bag or clutch you can recommend for such occassions. I would like it to be a neutral colour so I can wear it with many outfits.

I am a classic dresser, I normally wear dark denim jeans or black dress pants.

Thank you in advance,

Do you have a price range in mind?

Treesje makes affordable leather clutches, but they might be too casual for your intended use.

At the other end of the spectrum is the Bottega Veneta knot, at prices between $1200 and $9,000-ish.

I've gotten some great clutches from eBags.com -- they offer free shipping and a huge selection.

Hi, As the bag would only be used very little I wanted to spend no more than £60 or $115.

I do like Bottega Veneta but they are out of my price range.
