So I kind of did a thing today..... even though I have been on an extreme bender with purchases lately and keep telling myself I need to buy a 1 way ticket to ban island, and even though I have spent the last few days/nights obsessing over buying a Bvlgari serpenti bag after being introduced to them in this thread recently by @Kidney101 and deciding that would be my next splurge, I made a total impulse buy after receiving an email from Neiman Marcus about a Balmain x Barbie collab (I'm sure bc the movie came out today).

I clicked on the link only to discover a handbag that I find extremely gaudy but at the same time thought I couldn't live without. While I am not too familiar with Balmain (have seen some of their fashions which never interested me much - pattern looks like a "wannabe" givenchy/versace/fendi to me - but never their handbags), I do have a Barbie doll collection, so buying the bag made sense and when I saw there were only 2 left, panic set in. I realize there's no harm in ordering so I can see what it looks like in person as I can always return it (which I never end up doing) but it could be a fun piece to have given my love for barbies. Unfortunately, it won't arrive in time to wear to go see the movie tomorrow.

They also had these 2 styles - a smaller disco style bag and one which must be very small bc it's referred to as a "card holder". I am actually thinking of ordering these as well so I can see which I like best in person (at least between the disco round and the BBuzz). The BBuzz so elaborate and would be neat to have in collection (again given that I was a barbie doll collector) but I think I may prefer the simplicity of the disco round for actual use. This could also fill void of no yellow bag (yes I am trying to justify this overpriced monstrosity) as I would not purchase an all yellow bag and though I rarely wear yellow this would be a good match when I do. Could serve as a clear bag for venues that require such? Am I crazy for thinking tacky but cute?

There's a time and place for everything - including gaudy. I say as long as you don't carry it to work, have fun. And even with that, if you worked as an elementary school teacher you could carry it to work. Plus, gaudy is so subjective anyway.

Thank you @JenJBS I really kind of love it. I ordered the disco round crossbody too so I can decide which I like better once I see them in person. I feel like the disco is more reminiscent of a barbie doll box whereas the other seems a bit busy. And I work from home so that is not an issue!

I collected Sindy rather than Barbie and am Trying to resist the Barbie hype..
BUT..it’s almost impossible , plus for a while I worked in very high fashion (Valentino, Saint Laurent, Feraud etc in London and Paris), and still follow the rtw and Haute Couture collections internationally, and Premiere Vision trend shows, which are the fabric shows(2 years ahead!), and the influence is so interesting , that this bag is tempting as it’s not only very cute, but it’s representative of the whole fashion world this year(in a good way).
I love it!xxx

Interesting. I am not familiar with Sindy dolls but I believe British version of a Barbie doll? Guessing you live in the UK.....Do you still have your collection? If so, I would love to see pictures. During covid, I turned my garage into a game room and on new years day last year, I decided to start the year off by finally taking my Barbies out of their boxes and displaying after 20 years (installed shelving with glass doors along one entire wall in garage). Took me over 30 hours just to debox! But figured I may as well enjoy looking at them and I think it turned out nice. I have now replaced Barbies with handbag addiction. Lol

Yes, Sindy looked Very like Barbie!
I didn’t have a collection, just one!
She came as blonde or dark haired, I’m blonde, so had blonde.
I had the ballerina one as I was a ballerina(she was less sexy lol!
She had a tutu, but lots of other clothes, but I was Very innocent and had mine dancing about rather than flirting..

Also replaced mine with addictions to
Jewellery(no.1)
Handbags
Clothes!!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Yes I’m U.K.!

Totally off topic but since you're in the UK I am wondering if you might happen to know this.... If I purchase a handbag from a seller in the UK to be shipped to the US, what additional customs duties/VAT would be added? If you or anyone knows, I appreciate it!

I’m not sure, the other way, I have income 20% sales tax, so I guess it depends on which State you live in?
Sorry I couldn’t be more help❤️❤️❤️

If it's under $800 USD you shouldn't pay any duty on it as far as I know, unless something's changed. In Canada we pay on anything over about $25. :crybaby:

Thank you. I know when purchasing from Japan, the threshold for exemption is also $800. Unfortunately, the item I am eyeing in UK is over $800 and I've researched quite a bit only to not find a straight answer anywhere.

A few years back I helped out a friend in the US a few times by shipping designer shoes to her that were only available within the EU. I always declared the full value (sometimes over 800 USD) She didn’t experience any customs fees. I wouldn’t like to say it won’t happen to you, perhaps it’s random and not as strict as they are here in the UK. Everything I have purchased from the US over $50 has incurred a customs fee  It might also depend on who the seller would ship with. On each occasion I used RM international tracked, signed for and insured but courier companies like DHL might be different.

@Kidney101 and @Biogirl1 I have not been able to stop thinking about those Bvlgari serpenti bags. While the Casablanca collab mosaic looking one is probably one of the coolest bags I have ever seen, you were lucky to snag it when you did because there is not even one listed anywhere on the resale market. That being said, I have found a few that I have narrowed it down to:

I love the white and could actually use a white evening bag as I only have 1 smaller white bag and it's very causal, however, I wish the eyes on the serpent were another color besides black. If it had the green eyes or any color eyes, I think that would be a no brainer. The green bag appears to be a beautiful color but I do have a small YSL 5 et 7 in vert fonce (dark green) and a couple other green bags that don't get much use. The white with fuschia is also striking with the diamond print. As for the pink bag (not even quite sure how to describe that shade of pink), I have lots of pink bags but I don't think I have anything this shade of pink. I love the colors on the serpent so based on that alone being the most colorful plus my love of pink in general, that seems the best choice. I don't wear yellow often and don't own nor would I be likely to buy a yellow bag so I also like the idea that it might look nice with a yellow dress too (or lavender or mauve). But I keep going back to how rich the white or the green would look with a black and/or white ensemble and can't stop looking. I want all of them! LOL

Given your experience with this brand, any opinions you would like to share? Of course, opinions of others welcome too:smile:

ETA:
Here is another one I found in light pink which would normally be my go to. I find this one beautiful but I have so many light pink bags, I really think I should go for something different. But wow, I LOVE this one too and it would still be unique to my other pink bags!

I am wondering since I don't know much about these bags - are any of these styles known to be counterfit?

My vote would be for the white cabochon bag. I have two—one in black and one in orange—and they are less structured and stuff compared to some of their other styles if that is a concern. Also think about the sizes, since many of their styles won’t hold a lot and the structured nature means they don’t have a lot of give. Actually, I originally went to a Bulgari wanting the dark green bag, but once I saw it in person, was not terribly impressed. I didn’t like the look and feel of the leather in that style, but you won’t be disappointed with the suppleness of the cabochon. But in the end, go with your heart! They are works of art!
