What is considered entry level?

Some people dont or wont move up in the price range...
I agree with this, when you find a brand you like (whatever price range it may be) sometimes you just stick with it, I'm this way and I think that's why I didn't start with less expensive brands, I just jumped right into Chanel as soon as I could because I always liked it and it works for me. My 2 favorite bag brands are Chanel and Balenciaga and I really don't have much interest in others save for maybe 1 or 2 bags from different designers etc so I started where I did and I've stayed there. I don't think I've ever wanted to climb for the sake of climbing so to speak. (Hermes is another story though, I LOVE Hermes and can't wait to get a croco Kelly one day:heart:)

i'm 19, started with a LV neverfull in damier ;P

In the big cities, I see a lot of pre-teen and teenage girls (12 - 18) carrying some sort of LV bag - so maybe now LV is entry level for many.

However, to me entry level is really the bag that got you started on a bag collection. For some, it might be Coach, Dooney, Guess, LV, Gucci, MJ or even BV - it just really depends on what first gravitated you towards that paritcular brand. When I started university years ago, I was carrying no-name bags and then I saw some Fendi bags that were TDF carried by some of my mom's friends. For me, my entry level designer bag is Fendi - I only purchased Fendi bags throughout my university undergrad years. A lot of people here think Coach but the first Coach bag I bought was almost 8 years later, so I can't count it as entry level. I just don't think there's a set standard on what constitutes as designer entry level. There are so many factors involved that has nothing to do with the so called prestige of the brand.

I think entry level is what ever bag you actualy saved up for and bought yourself or the bag you drove parents, boyfriends, husbands crazy talking about as a gift for your upcoming birthday, holiday etc.....mine was L.V. mono speedy for christmas 1986 from Boyfriend now husband. I swear he bought that bag so he did not have to hear about it anymore!!!!!!!!!!! little did he know that was only the beginning.

Gotta love you! :D

Kidding aside OP, I would go with what the majority here is telling you! It is true though, and one should keep in mind, that everyone's entry level is different. For the majority of people, it's the first floor handbags and for some others it's anything under an Hermes Birkin! :smile1:

I too agree! Well said!

awww that is so sweet!

i know in Downtown Los Angeles is a mecca of Coach and D&B. my next not as popular would be Kate Spade.

i cut my teeth on Coach, then went to my first IRL tpf meet and discovered a whole world of premier designers..

i still love a select few of my Kate Spade bags. that would be my very first choice for a starter.

i just received an email from the KS outlet with tons of pics..going to post in the Deals & steals sub forum.. very soon.

I agree that Coach is an "entry level" for the majority of the population. I can't go anywhere without seeing at least 1. I'm not a fan but my first brand name bag was a Coach (way back when). I just graduated from level 1 very quickly and jumped up to LV and Chanel.
I would consider Juicy, Dooney, Kate Spade, Cole Haan, etc entry level also.

Then there is stage 2, 3, 4...on up to defcon 5 Croc Birkins :lawl:

I think it's whatever appeals to you at the time. My first designer bag LV, but I later bought two Coach because I liked them.
I don't think you should necessarily move only up in price as you expand your collection..there are different bags for different occasions. I know I wouldn't bring a LV to an outdoor concert or something very casual and could see myself buying a new coach for such an event.

Totally new to this site and so far loving it! This thread in particular is very entertaining!
I agree with the above poster...it all depends on what your TDF purse was. For me it was a Bottega Veneta purse I loved to death. That purchase opened up a brand new world of designer purses for me. It's like I had crossed a threshold I never imagined....and once I did....I can't go back to just a 'plain purse'. I think "entry level" is the wrong term...it should be what is the first bag purchase you made that got you hooked!

Something like Gucci, Burberry and Fendi for me is entry level...LV is probably one step up although they do have a wide selection of entry level priced items. For me I don't really consider D&B or Coach as "designer" simply because of the price point and the brand's reputation are totally different. IMO, a "designer brand" is iconic and something that has influenced the history of fashion.
