What is considered entry level?

For me personally Coach was my entry in to the world of purses and handbags. When I was in middle school I used to think it was ridiculous when my mom spent $200 on her Dooney & Bourke purses.

People change though  When I was in college I developed a fascination with purses. My mom bought me a Coach hobo in 2004. It was my first designer purse ever. In 2006, I was motivated to get a Christmas job at Macy's so I saved up my money and waited for the Friends and Family discount and I was able to get a brand new Coach purse at 40% off.

After my two Coach purses I began to crave more purses. While searching for more ideas for a new purse that's how I found the Purse forum. I browsed through the various designer forums and I was immediately captivated by Chanel. The prices were shocking to me because I never imagined someone could pay so much for ONE bag.

Eventually, I knew I had to own a Chanel because I really loved the look of their bags. Here I am in 2010 and I currently own two Chanel's. One petite shopping tote and one classic jumbo flap.

I really dont think there is a set "entry level" some people consider Coach really expensive (I do even though I also buy LV) and some people dont think its expensive at all. I think its whatever you start with..could be anything even a no brand name bag.

Coach can be VERY expensive! If you go to their website, it isn't difficult finding bags that cost around a grand. So then are we judging what's "designer" according to how much a bag costs?? I think it depends on availability, the legacy of a brand, who the designers are, etc., etc.

I know, thats what I was saying...since coach seems to be the popular vote. I dont think it has to do with the price or the name, just whatever you first liked.

Agree. There are so many brands and designers to choose from. Even for the high end brands, they always have somehow affordable lines. My first designer bag was LV mono Noe. I saved up money and I was sooo happy with its quality. And second was Prada Messenger. It's still running strong and absolutely my no.1 field bag.

Where I grew up, Liz Claiborne bags were considered expensive and quite the "status symbol". Remember the ones with the tiny, raised triangles? My mother, grandmother and I had tons of them. Then, years later, when I was in college, we moved on to Coach and Dooney and lower end Gucci, and then after college, Kate Spade. I would consider all of those brands to be entry level handbags for me.

I now own lots of LV (canvas, Epi and Suhali), Gucci (fabric and leather), Tods and Ferragamo and even though I'm now planning to purchase an Hermes Birkin, I would still consider those brands to be expensive, high end designer bags rather than entry level bags.
