What have you learned through your handbag addiction?

I've learned that:

1: I shouldn't utter the phrase: This is the last bag I need
2: That I want to make an efford to buy from companies that are responsible when it comes to human rights / animal welfare / the invironment. (This is a difficult one!!)
3: That I shouldn't show my bags to some people.
4: That I prefer bags that can fit a bottle of water
5: That I sometimes get really stressed when saving up for a bag. I dream about the bag, I talk about the bag and I obsess about the bag. I really try to control myself, but the bag seems to slip into almost every conversation I'm having. And then I get imberrased. (Luckily my psychologist soon gets back from paternity leave. :D)
6: That my DH is a very patient man!

Quality over quantity. I have been cleaning out my handbag collection and got rid of a bunch of bags that didn't fit my lifestyle or stage of life. After I turned 40, I just outgrew some bags (ie. they read too young). Now, I have bags that I truly love and rotate them now more than ever because I can actually see all of my bags.

I've also learned patience. Because I'm a teacher with expensive tastes and no credit cards, I have learned to save up for something I really want and shop thrift/secondhand/consignment/resell.

I've learned that... compared to most ladies here, I don't have an addiction!

... OK, I think TPF is enabling me. -.- Since joining like 10 days ago I've bought a small vintage Hermes bag already and am seriously considering a friend's unwanted Chanel. It's that bad.

I've learned that there is a difference between being able to afford a bag and being comfortable with the price. I had a bag I could afford, paid in cash, and I was so obsessed with how much it cost I never carried it! Somehow I was intimidated by a purse. I cursed myself for spending all that money when I could have bought a lower-key bag that actually got used.
Don't buy for show, or a lifestyle I want to have. Buy for one I do have.
There is no "one perfect bag to end all bags". They will all be suitable in one way and annoying in others. And I will probably get bored with them in time.
Its just a bag. Its for fun. Sometimes its good to forget about the bag hunt and go do something else. Ultimately its just a fun accessory that also carries stuff.

That it is important to concentrate on classics.
They will stand time.
Less is more, buy less but buy quality.
TPF is is a best place, to read about quality issues, people here have a ernomous knowlege
about it.
Preloved route can be a good thing, just authenticate, before buying.
Vintage bags are usually better made and rare, in the future, they might be IT bags compared
to massproducted.
When I dont remember the amount of my bags,I
have too many.
People outside tPF dont understand this very
expensive hobby and it is better to be quiet about it.
In a collection, there should be always a canvas
bag for bad weather, crouded situation etc.
It is better to devide to multiple brands, than just
buy one, if possible.
I tend to leave vibrant colours for less use, so
I try ty buy more neutrals.
A red bag, is the most powerful bag colour.
Good things happen, when I carry a red bag:)
My coworkers just wonder, why I get the best hotel room, champagne on the plane, when its hardly left up in running. I never reveal, that it
is the red, that causes these things, correct me, if I am wrong:)
I am planning to have a own room to my bags,
which is quite worrying IRL:)

That today I may think that I cannot ever let go of a certain bag, but that in fact, after a few weeks or months, I would be ready.

That tastes could change. I started with loving satchels with no long strap option, never bothered me if there were no straps. Now I'm looking for the long strap. I thought it would be satchel forever, but then I fell for nice hobos too. Before I would only go for neutral colors, then I discovered tPF and my bag colors became more lively. But now, it seems I'm going back to neutrals.
