What do you all think of NAME NECKLACES like the one SJP wore in SATC episodes?

I think they're cute but Im 22. There are a lot of things that I can get away with that the majority of this site's pop. cannot. I've seen the personalized jewelry thing overdone several times. Why do you need massive hoops, a necklace, a ring and a bracelet spelling your name out? Sure I get it, it can be gaudy if done incorrectly but so can Louis Vuitton or anything else. To each his/her own I guess but it's surprising, and kind of sad, the sort of generalizations that people apply to others based on something as trivial as a necklace.

the idea is cute, but I dont like people knowing my name, when I was phototech at CVS, I would always "forget" or take off my name tag when my manager wasn't looking, he was younger than me, and I was 19 at the time! I didn't mind much when he bickered at me for not wearing my name tag

ITA! I think they are cute.

I feel the same way. I kinda liked it on SJP on the series, but I would not personally wear one. In my opinion, the only ones who should be wearing things with one's name is are people who under the age of 16, maybe even 12 (besides name tag stickers)

ITA. I don't understand the need/desire to wear anything with your name or initials on the exterior of your clothing, bag or person.

I tend to agree.

I associate these necklaces with kids in middle school, and my daughter had one at that age. I don't care for them, and didn't like the one Carrie wore on SATC. Actually, I didn't care for a lot of the things they had her wear on that show - seemed they were trying a little too hard to put her in offbeat type fashions. But I digress...
ITA, it seems so childish.

your clothes (and accessories) tell the world what you think about yourself and how you want to be perceived. people relate things to a catalogue of information in their own brain. one could call that a stereotype. but thats just the way it is. sad in some cases, but it's real.

i mean, even hillary ******* could wear a nameplate but it seems like the same stereotypes keep occurring in this thread. so, if the shoe fits, or in this case, the nameplate...you know what to do.

I had a scripted one made and love it. I get what everyone says - if you wear it with the wrong outfit, it is just gonna scream all kind of fashion "don't". I also have a very unique first name, so people are always complimenting me on mine because they wonder where I got it etc. I wear it on occasion for fun... again they can be fun and cute, but it is all about personal preference!

I remember when they were first popular, and they were very popular among the middle school age group. So I will never be able to shake the association with very young people chasing trends. But with confidence the right person can carry off just about anything; just because they aren't right for me doesn't make them awful, either!

I personally wouldn't wear one. However, I think they can look nice depending on the style. The smaller scripted ones look much better than the big gaudy gold ones, which remind me of the big hoop earrings with your name in the middle that the kiosks in the mall sell.

a name necklace is more for the fun...
I have two, a silver one and one by Tatty Devine...
I do not think they are classy at all, but they are fun to wear with certain outfits....
