What do you all think of NAME NECKLACES like the one SJP wore in SATC episodes?

Personally I would not wear one... like pp said I would not want everyone knowing my name.. that said I have one with my name on it but it is in Arabic (my friend got it for me in Dubai)... I live in the States so not too many people know what it says. but.. if you like it go for it.. you are the one that will be wearing it.

I don't have a necklace that spells my name but I do have the Tiffany & Co. alphabet necklace with my first initial in script. I think it's a cute alternative for someone who wants a "personal" type of jewelry, but doesn't want their full name out there.

I have a Helen Ficalora initial pendant that I love! Would much rather wear my initial than have my name scrawled across my chest. JMO.

I have two name plates, a name ring.. (from like 1986..haha) and a bunch of my first intial.

I wear them all.. but the name plates are a little on the edgy side.. like someone else said. its definitely something to wear.. dressed down.. with like a rock and roll t-shirt or whatever. It was a very popular guido (sorry for the term.) thing back when I was in High School in NJ. Everyone and there mother had there name in Diamonds.

i love it. and i've liked it before i ever saw SATC. Name necklaces were big in the 80's. and i am OBSESSED with the 80's. OBSESSED.

and it also really depends on where you get yours made. Im getting mine this summer while im in NY at Patrica Field's shop, so i know it's by the same people who made Carrie's. You can find cheaper made ones all over, but sometimes you ahve to be careful cause the "gold" isn't all that great and makes your skin green! or the lettering is off and isn't well spaced.

I love them! actually, they were really huge in the 80's I like the script ones as oppose to the huge block letters I have 2 nameplates I wear them from time to time and It looks great!

Oh these are lovely. I think an initial necklace leaves a bit of mystery. Where they big in the seventies?

Even in the show, Carrie says she doesn't take it that seriously. When she saw Aiden's gold ring she defended her wearing gold by saying she wore "ghetto gold" and it was for fun. That's what I think when I see those necklaces. They are a ghetto look and as someone else said a "guido" look. Hope this doesn't offend anyone, but these are the stereotypes that come to mind when I see those necklaces. It's a kitschy look, not a classy one. I think it's okay on little kids and a make believe tv show. A lot of women use Carrie for inspiration, but beware of being a fashion victim. It's television, theatrics! Personally, when I see those necklaces I think young hoochie mama more than Carrie Bradshaw. Just my opinion. If you love it, rock it. Do you.
