What bag would be considered an "Old Lady Handbag"?

As a "middle-aged" woman myself, when I look at Queen Elizabeth carrying her patent leather handbag over her arm, I'm inclined to think "older lady". I actually checked out the site of Launer handbags-they have a royal charter to produce the Queen's purses. Most of them are fashioned in the "traditional" carry-it-in-the-crook-of-your-arm style.

But when you look at the leather and the craftsmanship, you can understand why they're so expensive.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind having one myself-just for those times that I want to have a "vintage" look (with my hair up and bright red lipstick!)

I agree-so many people criticize the Queen for her old-fashioned bags, but they cost a King's Ransom (or a Queen's Ransom!)

I don't think there really is an "old lady bag", I think it just depends on the style of the person whether it looks good or not.

Vera Bradley fabric flowery bags IMHO. I know that younger people carry them but they scream old lady knitting bag to me.
Oh and fanny packs.

When I think of my mom's bags I think of these big, chunky vinyl naugahyde bags from mervyns with tons of "organizer" pockets. No matter how many organizer pockets the bag had moms bags were always stuffed and overflowing. That being said, coming from my frame of reference, the bags I think are most dowdy are the Chloe Bay, Heloise and Saskia Square Tote and most of the Mulberry Bags.

I think structured satchel type bags that ar boxy look very old ladyish to me like for really old ladies. For middle aged I would say pleated mom jeans and a Buxton bag

Anything my mother in law would use is old lady-ish to me. Actually sometimes that's a prerequisite for me when I get a bag.

I love Vera Bradley but always feel either "old lady-ish" or too "mommy-ish" when I carry mine.

Please don't hate me. I think a "old lady bag" is the Hermes Kelly. Very simple and rigourus, I can see it more on a older woman.

whatever bag my mom would carry, to me, is "old ladyish". Can't help it!! She has the worst taste in bags ..lol
Currently she is carrying an dingy old paisley fabric bag with lots of compartments...

Chanel- not all of them but the ones with quilting and chain straps do to me

^ ITA. I recognize that chanel is classic. However, when I see a young girl carrying a flap I can't help but think that it ages her a bit. But that is JMO!

I live in a college town and I am here to tell you all those students must be old because I dont think there is one who doesnt proudly carry a vera.
