What 5 jewelry pieces should a girl in her 20s focus on acquiring?

1. Diamond studs earrings - the best you can afford
2. Diamond hoop earrings (the inside-out style)
3. A watch - I love the Cartier Roadster in staintless steel
4. A classic pendant with chain
5. Diamond tennis bracelet

1. Diamond earrings
2. A great every day pendant
3. A nice watch
4. A versatile bracelet - could be a diamond tennis bracelet or a more casual bangle depending on your style and budget
5. A right hand ring

Buy the best and most classic pieces you can afford. I find that most of my trendy pieces do not get taken out very often. I gravite towards estate pieces and VCA. You can get some really good deals on estate pieces if you find the right dealer. Have fun!

hmmm, haven't read through all 5 pages of this thread yet but will at some point. This is my suggestion, I'm sure it will echo others in some areas. I picked out things that are work attire related as I'm guessing this question was related to jewelry to accessorize a professional outfit.

1. pearl earrings 7-7.5mm
2. pearl strand necklace 15-16" 7-7.5mm
3. yellow gold earrings - something like an x shape stud or small huggy, just a nice professional touch to an outfit
4. a designer watch with out bling
5. sapphire earrings, these go great with navy or white, a pear shaped drop style isn't too pricey

As a 20 year old my 5 "staple" items are:

1) Diamond studs (tcw 0.88, vs1, g)
2) Tiffany DBTY (18k gold, .08)
3) David Yurman 14mm Hampton Blue Moonlight Ice ring
4) Michele CSX watch (no diamonds)
5) Mikimoto pearl necklace

it's funny because in the last two years, i haven't acquired half of the above suggestions and I am worried... While I do have floating pearls, I have regular pearls and tiny pearl earrings. I also have a long strand you can triple up and knot. My necklace and bracelet don't look like typical pearl though, my grandmother got them from india so it has a very natural look to them. I have a bunch of costume and fake earrings and all that. I have a couple of fun swarvoski and coach jewelry. I succumbed to tiffany silver once I made it into the 20s and made a charm bracelet and got the daisy large key with the diamond, i have a small locket and mini rose gold heart. I have a michele caber diamond watch, I bought myself a tanzanite right hand ring and 1 ctw white sapphire studs to wear at school, and now I just bought a VCA 5 motif bracelet.... I wish I redid the way I bought everything now :(

I think it sounds like you have a gorgeous collection - no offence to anyone on here but I don't think a lot of the suggestions are very realistic for the average person in their 20s to afford - what 20 year old has thousands to spend on jewellery - as a college student and for a good few years after I couldn't have dreamt of owning a Love bracelet 1 ct+ diamond studs, diamond tennis bracelets or half the other stuff mentioned!

It wasn't intended to be critical of what anyone has - there are some simply stunning collections on here - I just think it is a shame that some people may end up feeling inadequate to whatever degree because they don't have some of the things mentioned. With my suggestions I tried to be mindful that the average twenty something just wants to build up a core collection of affordable staples, maybe saving for one or two special and slightly more expensive pieces. I'm the same as you - I bought all my bags and jewellery after I left university and started earning well and although I'm married I don't have kids yet, don't drive and have to fund a car and luckily have no mortgage... so any spare money gets to go on ME lol :D:graucho:

I fully understand where you are coming from! Many students come out of school with student debt, are looking for jobs etc...I don't think this thread is meant to be a guide for all 20 something's but I think everyone that posted did post what they bought or are buying in their 20's. I know what I post were what I want to collect in my 20's not necessarily what I think everyone should have :D

I do have a car and I spend sooo much money on it ugh! LOL
