I'm in my 20s too and these are the pieces I've collected/aim to collect soon:

1. nice SS classic watch ( I never realized how useful this was until I had one)
2. diamond studs
3. right hand ring
4. simple YG/WG everyday necklace
5. simple YG/WG bracelet

HI! I love this thread! I am 25 and here is my jewelry wish list:

Rolex presidential watch in gold
diamond studs
cartier love bracelet (got it )
diamond tennis bracelet
engagement ring

Hmmmm...:thinkin: I think it's difficult to come up with a prescribed list of must-haves - people are too individual and tastes change over time :smile1:

The only thing I can think of that would be broadly applicable would be to start saving now for a great watch that you will wear forever - something along the Cartier, Tag or Rolex SS line. A significant purchase but one that gets great cost-per-wear. Check out authorised secondhand dealers or vintage watch traders if you can - watches like this last well and there is a strong second-hand market - people do frequently sell watches without ever having worn them :wtf: But it can be a great deal for you if you're in your early 20s and looking to start your collection.

What I would try to avoid in this age-group is buying pieces that are what I call 'interim' jewellery. People can end up with multiple pairs of diamond studs this way and the smaller ones rarely get worn again. You can pass them on to a daughter or a sister but you would be better off, IMO, waiting and saving for the ones you really really want and will wear forever. I don't own diamond studs yet for this reason - I want a pair of Asscher diamonds around the 3cttw mark. I'm happy to wait. I have a pair of simulants from carat.co to keep me happy in the meantime.

Otherwise, just try as many pieces on as you can, check out as many estate jewellery stores as you can and start working on a list for yourself of what pieces you would like to acquire - make it as fanciful and dreamy as you like. Then edit, cut down to realistic pieces and make a bit of a timeline. There are other financial goals to be set for this time in your life also, but a great jewellery collection doesn't happen by accident either. If it is important to you, you can direct funds to jewellery while perhaps not spending on things like clothes or bags so much...

Of course, not everything has to be planned you know - jewellery has a way of leaping out at us spontaneously... :D

Sounds fabulous!! I think we all have things we can work towards - I'm loving the Love, but for the moment it will have to wait :D

I agree with Jesssh, also your taste changes as you get older so there is point (in my opinion anyway) in investing a lot of money in jewels in your 20s when you might like something entirely different in a few years. When I was in my early twenties (I am now 32) I loved silver and absolutely hated gold. Fast forward a decade and it is now the opposite!

Personally, if I were in my early-mid twenties I would get:

1. Diamond or pearl studs - the best you can afford. Over-sized freshwater pearl studs are quite affordable and look great at any age
2. A cocktail ring in a semi-precious stone or containing semi-precious stones such as citrine, amethyst, blue topaz etc. If you choose a white or yellow gold setting this could also be an investment piece for the future
3. A nice everyday pendant necklace - a DBTY would be perfect, if not then either a non-gemstone necklace in your choice of metal (silver or gold) which goes with everything
4. An everyday bangle or bracelet in silver or gold. Tiffany's does some lovely pieces and their beads ranges are really nice if you don't want silver
5. A classic watch. Gucci do some nice timepieces around the £400-500 mark

I agree with this post 100%! I lusted after lots of jewerly items in my 20's that now I think look cheesy at 30. I also used to hate yellow gold and now I like it. I also feel her recommendations are pretty spot on. Also don't buy anything you wouldn't normally wear, for example if you never wear rings don't spend a bunch of money on a fancy ring. Don't think if I spend X amount of money on it that it will get used, it won't it will sit in the drawer with all the other items just like it you don't use and you'll regret wasting a bunch of money on something that sits in the drawer.

I'm in my early 20s and my five must haves:

1. A nice watch. - I went with Michael Kors. They have a nice range of watches at a good price.

2. Pearl earrings. - Simple easy and stylish. Mine are 8mm, the perfect size in my opinion.

3. A simple smallish pendant necklace for everyday wear. Tiffany has a nice selection for different tastes. I went with the Paloma's Marrakesh pendant and I wear it constantly.

4. A diamond (or more). I don't think it really matters if it's a ring, a necklace, etc but every girl should have a diamond in a beautiful classic setting.

5. A statement piece that you fall in love with. It might not be the most practical piece but when you love a piece of jewelry you can often make it work in a variety of situations. Mine would be the Tiffany Bone Cuff.

I would be looking for layering pieces or pieces that you can use flexibly well into the future. Maybe:
1. diamond studs
2. a DBTY necklace
3. a solid gold chain with nice detailing that you can wear with a variety of pendants
3. A large statement pendant
4. a vintage classic SS mens' watch (Rolex AirKing)

Hmmmm well for me it would be:

Pretty right hand ring - Got it (Cartier Lotus single motif ring)
Classic watch - Thinking Rolex SS/RG Datejust
A bangle style bracelet - Thinking RG Love or RG VCA Perlee Bracelet (my UHG!)
A showstopper ring - Thining VCA Lotus Ring
A classic pair of earrings? - on the fence about this since I'm not realy an earrings gal.

Looking back at that list I'm really shootin for the stars there (ahh wishful thinking!)

I agree with all of this! don't settle and make sure what you buy will get a lifetime of use....or you'll end up like me selling multiple pairs of diamond studs or giving them to family :p

:smile1::smile1:My list, partly owned, partly desired, is:

1. Cartier Tank Francaise watch (got it)
2. Cartier RG Love Bracelet for the other hand (got it and absolutely love it)
3. Diamond Studs (got it)
4. Fun additional bracelet that's still wearable all the time (Hermes CDC bracelet in ombre or black and/or Anita Ko Spike YG bracelet)
5. Rings (e-ring, got it with VCA perlee RG frame rings around it) + right-hand ring (want and would love suggestions!)

If I could add a 6th, it would be a great everyday necklace (I have one with silver and rose gold that is very delicate, but if I could afford it/save for it, I would do the VCA 20 motif in yg and onyx) (a more affordable but great option are the Helen Ficalora necklaces with the alphabet charms -- I want the diamond chain in yg and 3 alphabet charms, 2 in yg and 1 in rg ... I think the total for that is around 1000)

I hear that! It's a lesson you can really only learn with experience :shame: I bought at least 3 pendants, including a very nice diamond pendant that was quite (!) expensive, before I finally worked out that what I actually wanted and would wear is a diamond eternity necklace like the T&Co Swing design. Stopped wasting my time endlessly looking at pendants that just did not work for me and saved my money...got my necklace late last year and LOVE IT!! :D :woohoo:

Of course now, I'm looking at the Cartier Orchid mini pave pendant...
