it's funny. the last cat i adopted was in the 80s. her name was dixie. there had just been a tv movie called "i know my first name is steven" about a kid who was abducted and years later when he's found the only thing he remembers is his real name (since his abductor changed it). anyway dixie had a sister stephanie and i was so afraid one day they would see each other again and stephanie would say "dixie!" and dixie wouldn't know who she was talking to. so i kept her name dixie. lol. i know. i'm crazy. man, i miss that cat.
