Thanks Costa - i was going to do that - sounds like the bathtub is the way to go, and buy a color catcher to be on the safe side......... Thanks for everyone's input.

Absolutely!
I give them at least 3-4 warm / lukewarm rinses, and 2 cold ones. (I wash them all - cashmeres & silks alike - in warm water). Also, I always iron them (with full steam) while they are wet, straight out of the towel.

I do this, too.

Which patterns have you gals washed sucessfully? I am very nervous to wash the gms - any good experiences? Anyone used woolite?

Let's see, it's a long list:

La Rosee aka Dew - many colorways
Prierres au Vent - royal blue, also black/purple
Plumes - vintage with burgundy border & ivory background (ran like crazy!)
Entendards et Banniers - fuchsia (ran like crazy!)
Early America - the 2008 blue colorway

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

If anyone is still looking for the EUROSTEAM IRONS let me know.....I have the information. They are AMAZING irons. You can hold it on a balloon and it does not break.....yet it presses like a dream....almost plumping the material instead of flattening it. Just let me know.

Just wondering if there is any new updates on washing GM cashmere scarves.

I have a Chasse En Inde in the black and blue CW that got some food stains on it last night.

We have a Fisher & Paykel washer & dryer (about 7 years old) with multiple options so I am curious if the consensus is to use a washing machine or to hand wash.

And if you hand wash, still toss in one of the color catcher clothes?

And to dry just lay out flat on towels?

The stain is not really visible but it was some citrus sauce on salmon so it's more the smell I need to get rid of.

Should I "spot" wash instead of whole scarf?

Thanks all.

hello brave ladies who have washed their cashmere GM's and lived to tell about it - have any of you ever washed a GM with bright red in the design? I have a Vie du Fleuve with lots of red and orange, light blue and white which I would really like to clean, but I am so afraid of the red running into the light blue and white areas.

I hand wash both H silks and cashmeres (GM & PM) and never had any issues.

If I'm worried about the possible colour run then I make sure to keep the water barely warm and use a couple of colour catcher sheets.

I use Ecover detergent for delicate fabrics, make sure to rinse well. Avoid wringing and instead roll it in a clean white sheet or towel to absorb the water and then hang to dry. I find that I rarely need to iron my scarves/shawls after that but if I do, then I place a clean white cotton sheet on top of the scarf and iron over that making sure to avoid the hems.

^^^ Thanks for this link, very interesting! I threw out Woolite YEARS ago, it destroyes cashmere...I'm amazed that it's still in production!

I never send cashmere to the dry cleaner's....

What is the best way to deal with a coulourful GM that has pilling issues, aswell as some light spots that need a wash? I've recently aquired one that could really use a wash & it's pilling - will hand washing make the pilling worse? Better? Should I deal w/ the pilling irst or wash first? Will ironing help? Or should I just send to dry clean? I've tried to get over the condition, but it's bugging me & I've never washed an H silk before! *scared*

Hi lola! As to the pilling, it's funny that you mentioned it today. I was asking my SA about
it, and he told me that I could use one of those battery operated shavers that is expressly
for piling on sweaters. So I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and bought one. It seemed to
do a nice job. I was very careful to not press hard. I have not washed my cashmere GM's
yet, but I have washed my silks in Le Blanc with Color Catcher as recommended on the
forum. The silks come out beautiful.
