I surmise the reason that Paypal orders the destruction of some of these bags is because of various lawsuits by Hermes and others brands against Paypal. I seem to recall an issue back in the day that PP would make you send the fake bag into one of their locations and apparently these bags were re-appearing on Ebay. I believe the outcome was that PP now has to ensure the bags are destroyed.

PP doesn't want do incur further costs of business so forum boards, experts etc hurt their bottom line. What PP can and should do is have a few levels of review before a claim is decided. I can imagine the amount of claims they get, but it seems as though there is some rote way of handling them with little to no consideration of evidence outside of the "box."

PP may request an affadavit to show that the item has been destroyed.. but there is no guarantee that that item in question has
been destroyed.. hence the "scammer"...

There needs to be a group of knowledgeable authenticators working
for ebay to be able to remove "fakes" when they do appear.. ebay does
have the money to do so they choose not to because as many of us know
they make the money by not removing the fakes...this is a very sad
scenario because the seller was willing to provide the information PP just
never asked for it.. that needs to change...

There are many cases of all $ values captured in the pages on tPF.
I wonder if anyone lurking out there has been logging/keeping statistics on the instances.
Perhaps a nice project for a university student to use for a class?
I  tPF!

That's a great idea!

I don't want to get too off topic, but sooner or later a bunch of burned customers are going to get together and sue paypal. It's pretty intimidating when you're on your own and up against them, but with all these cases out there and how inconsistent they are with their "policies," it's only a matter of time. I don't follow this stuff enough to know if there is a book about them, papers, how many suits etc, but it's coming!!

Paypal are effers and they do stuff like this farrr too often!
I really hope that people that have been burned by Paypal in this way will get the strength, determination and be braveheart enough to get together and file a class action lawsuit against Paypal. It would truly be the only way that they may consider changing their policies (at the very least) or the company be bought down altogether (at the best)

Wow. I couldn't believe it. I am on the market looking for my first birkin and I know some people are selling fake bags on Ebay and I'm afraid to buy from dishonest seller. It's my first time hearing the story from the other side. Sorry for your lose. Just want to point out you didn't do the math right. First the buyer paid you $11k then it was taken out from your account so your lose is the bag which is $9k.

none -- I would NEVER pay with a wire transfer. Even if I 'trusted ' the seller - the best scam artist create trust.

it´s funny, here in Germany most buyers pay via wire transfer. I do, too. Reading some of the threads here you would think I was crazy to do it, but I always got what I paid for. I wouldnt do it with an international transaction though.

Nope.......just receiving 4-6 calls from Paypal per day stating that my account is negative..........annoying, yes. Not as annoying as losing $11K so I just do not answer them.

Hi Kristie, any latest news?

Every day that you get those calls, just make a list of them and email them to your paypal list of employees like before and be sure to include the letter you sent before reminding them that you have demanded in writing that they not harass you by phone. The more evidence you have of this the better it looks for you. And you may even get money in damages if you do go to court when you win for their harassment.

Don't give up. email, email, email to them all, every day, even twice a day if you have to. That's a LOT of money to walk away from, in my opinion. good luck xox

Agree! I am in Belgium, and it is far more common to pay with wire transfer! Never had any trouble with it, and honestly, when reading all the scams that occur with PP involved, I actually find it safer!
