So sorry to hear this happen to you.

What difference does a wire transfer make for international sales?

On the buying side, I wired some funds to a European seller who then never sent the item. I had no recourse with Paypal because I didn't use them.
Wire transfers are great for sellers but are NOT good from a buyer's prospective if you do not know/trust the seller.

Wire transfers are pretty much unprotected.......once the money is sent, the deal is done. Great for sellers who do not want to be scammed but opens up a door to BE scammed as a buyer.

We cannot win.

I am still just in a holding pattern with the negative PP account. They call me weekly to ask when I am going to pay it. I told them I am not...period. I told them to just send it to collections because they are not getting a dime from me. The last PP collection agent that called me was an ASS and basically screamed at me telling me it was MY responsibility and had nothing to do with PP. K.....whatever. I hung up on him.

I am so very sorry this has happened to you, I feel so angry with Paypal how on earth could they do this for such a high value item casting it aside as if it were just a couple of £ its insane of them there has been such good advice posted.
Myself I am sorry to say but having had two scammers in Canada I now will not ship and have blocked that country.

I pray there is some justice from this thankyou so much for sharing and I wished I could help if it was in the UK I would ask for the address and pay a private detective really am shocked and so upset for you.

This has happened to me with a gym membership. We had paid our two year contract agreement in full the first day we signed. It was a family package. We should not have gotten our monthly dues until June of this year. However last year we suddenly received letters from the collections agency and numerous phonecalls. They didn't want to listen to our case, blah, blah, blah. The amount that needed to be collected added up with our monthly fees, but we paid our full 2 years upfront. In short we ignored the collection agencies phone calls, and they just gave up. :/

I'm still wondering what Paypals line is in regard to them losing the chargeback case against your bank? I wonder if this is why they haven't (hopefully can't?) send to collections?

Now, I have no knowledge of the US banking system, but in Europe, if you sign on as a retailer to accept Visa/Mastercard, you are bound by their rules, in as much as if a chargeback is done, and you lose the investigation (basically rules/regs compliance) you agree to be bound by that ruling.

I'd guess there would be some similar rules around the chargeback your bank did against Paypal, so you'd think that they would have to comply with that, as part of their sign up agreement in the first place? In which case they then shouldn't be able to pass on their debt to you?

Hope this all works out for you.

I had the same thing happen to me - except it was the Paypal supervisor yelling at me. They just sent my $90 debit to collections and I sent a letter to the collections company and Paypal telling them to provide a court order - if I did not receive one, I will not pay the disputed amount.

Because I am not paying based on principle, unfortunately my' credit has been affected. I tried to open up a cc account and was declined. I have never been declined before, so I think it is because of the $90 that was sent to collections.

Paypal has been a pain in my a** and has sucked up too much of my time.

You have the right to attach an explanation for the ding to your credit reports. And the credit reporting agencies have to include your explanation with any credit report requests.

I have been scammed on a much lower valued designer bag. But, in my case the buyer said she never received it. It was an international transaction and for some reason it never showed delivered. I had a sneaky suspicion she did get it. I watched eBay daily for either her or another international seller. Sure enough 4 months later another seller listed it. I did some investigating to find out the seller was also my buyer under a different ID. I confronted her and told her I would call eBay and Paypal, she committed fraud. She made up a far fetched story to try and put the blame on her sister. Anyway, she sent my bag back. Just keep an eye out for a Canadian seller, selling your bag!!!
wow...good caught!

You can attach an explanation, however that will only show up upon manual reviews of credit (these usually only happen on loan requests--mortgage & car etc). So if someone is applying for a credit card, that explanation most likely isn't going to mean anything. Also, in many cases, even with an explanation, creditors still won't care. They will want to see any collection paid in full (in the case of mortgages) or will not want to take the risk. It's not fair, but it's true. That's why in this case OP's best chance is to keep DVing any and all collection agencies BEFORE they show up on her credit reports. They can come after her all they want, but if she can keep them off her reports, that should help her out.

Paypal is no longer the ONLY form of payment accepted on Ebay. You absolutey CAN refuse to accept Paypal. After losing a lawsuit in Australia, Ebay now accepts several other companies, and provides Buyer Protection! (from Ebay site): (note who is first, of course!)

For most categories, sellers need to offer one or more of the following electronic payment choices:
  • PayPal
  • ProPay
  • Moneybookers
  • Paymate
  • Credit card or debit card processed through the seller's Internet merchant account
I sell on Ebay and have been using Moneybookers since January. I even offer free shipping if they pay with Moneybookers. The only problem has been convincing the brainwashed Ebay buyers to use anything NEW.....

This is true. You're allowed to write "I accept other forms of payment" in your listings although you can't say "I accept GoogleCheckout" yet. LOL. GoogleCheckout is very fair to sellers and buyers alike. I highly recommend them.
