I wonder how long it takes before they start calling?
Even though I removed all of my accounts from PP, from what I researched online, I need to actually CLOSE all those CC accounts and get new C numbers so PP cannot charge my CC's that I did have on file with them. Just because I "deleted" them off of PP does not mean they did not keep the info.
Notify your c.c. company/companies of potential fraud and have them contact you for confirmation of any debits to your account.

In fact, this happened with me recently. My husband recently traveled out-of-state and made some unusually high charges on a credit card. (We don't use that card often so with the high value purchases and the out-of-state use, this raised a red flag with Citibank.) They called and I confirmed that the charges were legitimate and the payments went through.

In your case, if paypal tries to do the same, they'd call you and you could let them know that it's unauthorized.

Yes, I would do that asap! Report your CCs lost or stolen.

You can legally tell the collection agency the debt is fradulent, and to stop contacting you. It should all be outlined in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you can check it out in wikipedia. I'm so sorry this is happening to you, but you can fight this and win. You already got the money back. Now you can clear your credit rating. You are a fighter. You can do this.

I am really not too concerned about my perfect credit being messed up. I know I will be able to dispute that on my credit report with a little bit of legwork.

I am more concerned about the 9,789,987,067 phone calls I will receive from collections. I have read online that PP collections agencies call up to 15-20 times per day if your PP account is over $1K negative.

You will get phone calls from the collection agencies. However you can fight them. It will be a tough fight over this amount, but you can do it. What you will want to do is send a DV letter (debt validation) within 30 days of first contact. At that point the collection agency will need to prove you owe this money. It should slow down the collection process a bit. If that CA backs down youll do the same with the next (and theyll keep coming). You can also send cease and desist letters too in the meantime. PM me if you need more info.

On a side note---I would sign up for a monitoring service so that you can keep an eye on all 3 reports. This way you'll know if a CA shows up without sending you a dunning letter or if more than one are reporting the debt.

kristie, have you actually talked to PP since they made your account negative again? Maybe it's just a temporary system default action, as I really don't see how they could legally do this. If you as a buyer had filed a chargeback and won, they wouldn't have the authority to neg your acct., so how on earth could they apply a different rule for a seller? Chargeback was filed, PP lost, so should be end of story. Maybe they intend to respond to the chargeback within the 45 day window and are just posting the negative amount until it's fully resolved. Otherwise, I just don't get it.

This!

Even though Chase decided in kristie's favour, it's not like they have legal authority and PP has no choice to abide by their decision.

My husband had to dispute an overbilling by a car rental company on our CC once - they decided in our favour and removed the charges, but the car rental place still sent collection letters for a while trying to get us to pay it.

is calling .. again, wishing you well....and hope that this will end

soon for you.... its been quite the rollercoaster ride..

very important info for all of us to know....thanks for posting this..

They said if PP tries to have collections actually go into my checking account and take the money, I can dispute that with them because it would be an unauthorized transaction. They have sent me a letter I can supply to the collection agency to show the transaction was unauthorized/never received my merchandise back.

*sigh*

THIS is what will get the collection removed from your credit reports through the credit bureaus. Once it hits, contact each bureau and forward this documentation, and they will remove the collection item.

ETA: Even if you did have a legitimate debt that was being collected, once you tell the collection agency to stop calling you, they have to stop calling you. If they don't, you can make a complaint directly with the FCC (I think that's the correct agency).

Well folks, as of today my Paypal account is once again..........$11K NEGATIVE.

Paypal decided that since Chase gave me my rightful money back then THEY would just make my account $11K negative because we KNOW PP won't take blame for anything and they refuse to lose 1 cent!

They will send the account to collections.........oh boy. Here we go........calling Chase now.

I was afraid that would happen. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this, Kristie.

Wouldn't the actions by Chase be the same idea as a chargeback?! How on earth can they do this?!! Why haven't they figured out that they need to be going after the scumbag scammer. Ugh, it still makes me so mad that there's a scammer out there enjoying your bag while you go through this. I wish you luck, kristie
