do any sellers out there think that if there was any kind of letter of statement

of authenticity posted in their listing that it would deter something like this

happening again....it would be a challenge for a buyer to dispute that..would

ebay allow that information to be listed in a seller's ad??

What do you mean? What kind of letter? As a seller and as a buyer, whatever is posted in your selling ad doesn't really make much of a difference. The fact is that there are some sellers who claim "authentic, authentic, authentic", "new, new, new" and in truth, it's a disgusting, old fake. What would a letter or statement of authenticity prove? What is posted on an ad and what is ACTUALLY sent can be two different things.

Don't take offence hotshot... I seriously respect your opinion. It's just me, playing devil's advocate...LOL!

A deterrent? Perhaps.
I do not think it would have mattered one bit in my case. The buyer could still say that the bag that was sent was not the bag in the auction photos. Clearly, paypal does not care about anything a seller provides, including detailed photos, individual craftsman stamps, etc.

The only thing that is scam proof is doing the entire transaction via escrow.com. I don't think ANY seller is protected by Paypal at all. I just proved it in this whole debaucle. Paypal is pathetic.

EVERYTHING PP did was wrong.
They never asked ME for ANY documentation PERIOD. I supplied it on my own just to try and cover myself and be "protected" HA!
I submitted a signed letter of authenticity for that bag by an intellectual property firm..... I mean, as legit as it gets right?? PP said AFTER I submitted it that they never asked me for it and they do not take SELLER'S documents at all ONLY the buyer in SNAD cases........
The "affidavit" that paypal sent to the BUYER stating she "destroyed" the bag is NOT notorized in any way. Paypal said the buyer just signs it and faxes it back..... End of story.

Of COURSE it was a simple scam because paypal always sides with the buyer and the buyer KNEW it. I am still blown away that they said seller's documentation and proof of authenticity is 100% irrelevant in SNAD cases. ONLY the buyer's documentation is taken into account. Could it be any more scandalous????
No it could not be any more scandalous. And whether the scammer takes you for $1100 (my case) or $11,000 (your case), they are still scammers that know exactly what they are doing. Thank God you figured this out with your bank, because with PP and its extremely weighted, one-sided system that rules in favor of buyers, you would have been out s**t out of luck. My scammer said the bag was not as described and heavily worn and damaged and they took her word. No matter what pictures or anything else I sent them to prove otherwise.

Many sellers who have had items authenticated prior to listing state in their text that "this item has been authenticated by Caroldiva" and potential buyers are welcome to contact Carol with the item number for confirmation.

And if those listings are challenged, I believe the seller's pre-sale authentication would work to their benefit.

Oh, I get it. Possibly a deterrent.

this is actually what I am talking about... if there is a service

that is known and recognized as being able to authenticate

merchandise that should be acceptable to PP and become

a deterrent to a potential scammer... the scammer would have

or should be thinking that the item has been totally authenticated

by a professional and they just won't win a case..or be told to

destroy an item... pp has got to recognize that there are scammers

around and do these kinds of things .. and credit cards can't

continuously be giving money back..

what you are saying is so..however, you were fortunate that

for now Chase is behind you 100%.. there are sellers that haven't

been as lucky as you are... there has to be something that can be

done to protect sellers.. PP has to recognize that changes need

to be made.. they are losing business from potential new sellers

as well as old sellers.. sellers are concerned.. they are nervous..

look at all the recent threads/posts about sellers looking for new

ways to ship their merchandise with security /UV pens, etc to make

sure they won't be scammed... something has to give sooner or

later...

.

So my actual Paypal account is not closed, I just removed all of my bank info and all credit cards.
LMAO..... I Just got this in an email. They can kiss it!!! I am calling them
for NOTHING!!

I don't take offense.. this is a forum for an open discussion to share

thoughts... there has to be something that can be done to

protect sellers .. and yes, it is sad to think you can buy one thing

and get something else...but that is another can of worms.. in this

case Krisitie did send an authentic bag and had a letter of authenticity

as well... pp never asked for that letter.. that is what's wrong..

we need to find a way to have pp recognize that they need to have an

independent third party authenticating items.. they just can't tell

a buyer to destroy something without verifying that info with the

seller...especially, when the seller has all the pertinent info available..

if they can fax a buyer for an affadavit they can fax a selller for

a affadavit or authentication as well...

sooner or later something like this had to come your way... you

did expect it... at this point, let CHase duke it out with PP..

just hope that PP won't send this to collections... after what

I have been reading.. WOULD NOT PUT ANYTHING PAST PAYPAL..

they don't care if you are out $11k.. they just want to make

sure that they aren't out of it either!!!!

Ha! Paypal is just sweet as sugar when it's money they are trying to get back for themselves! I would be tempted to email them back and tell them you need a 3rd party to verify the authenticity of their transaction and then you will take 30 days to decide... lol!

Kristie --

I am glad you got your money back, and I really hope this doesn't turn into another issue, but the wording in paypal's email just struck me as odd....they said your bank is claiming the transfers weren't authorized by you.....yet I thought Chase had reversed the transfer because you didn't receive your item back.

Also, are you still going to pursue any kind of legal action or complaint?

Now PP has opened a case on (supposedly) Kristie's (closed) Paypal account? (I know all bank account and credit cards has been removed from that PP account)
I do not think PP will give up the $11K that easy.
I hope this does not turn into another issue.

I don't think it could even be closed with an ongoing issue. I was surprised when i read it allowed her to remove all her bank/cc info. Were I OP, I would still pursue a complaint with the AGs office to CYA.
