Paypal is only one of several accepted payments methods that ebay allows.I'm interested in learning more about the other payment options that sellers are able to use on eBay. I think when you buy on eBay, you should use Paypal but when you sell, these other options that OP mentioned may be better options. Does anyone know anything about them(moneybookers or paymate)?
I think that's what happened in this case. Then what if the scammer has the exact same bag, only it is fake? They could keep the authentic bag and send the fake bag in to be authenticated. So the seller would still get screwed in that situation.
Selling on ebay is just too risky!
Great thinking getting your bank involved OP! Its nice to hear a happy ending!
Im so so happy for you, l have read this entire thread - (2 hours and 1 massive headache later) lm so happy for you. I would absolutely love to be a fly on the wall at the PP offices now - this is gold. I hope and lm sure it will all work out for you.
I also pray that this SCAMMER gets caught and it makes the front page of a newpaper with a 'mugshot' of this ferral scumbag SCAMMER SOAB
Paypal can't make my account $11k negative because it is closed at $0.00.
They cannot just send me a collection notice for $11k either. They have to duke it out with Chase, not me, if it came to that.
CHASE is the one that took MY money back from paypal's thieving grubby little hands.
My bank account that was linked to PP is also closed.
The bad part of this is that I cannot BUY anything on eBay if the seller only accepts pp![]()
I agree...PP will not go after the scammer, probably a write-off.OP, I am so happy you got your money back! It's also great to hear how Chase handled this--definitely makes me rethink my opinion of them (I have 2 accounts with them that I hardly use...may change that!)
On a side note, I doubt paypal will ever pursue the scammer...to them $11k is nothing. Besides they can just write the amount off. The money they would spend trying to catch the scammer and get the evidence needed to prove she's guilty is not worth it in the end. It's the same with cc companies--so much of the time with cc fraud they just write the amount off rather than go after the fraudsters. It takes a huge amount of money (much more than $11K) to get them to actually pursue/take other action. But, whether or not the scammer gets away with it, paypal will take a hit which is great! The way they handled this was disgusting so it's nice that they at least take a small hit/inconvenience.

PP will ultimately not pay. We, the consumer, will pay. Same with CC fraud.
if this is correct, than OP should be ok .. let PP duke it out
with Chase....
I agree, BE! The idea that the scammer got that gorgeous bag AND their money back makes my blood boil. They've probably factored losses like these into the fees we all pay to use PayPal! This must be why the fees are so high. Ugh, I wish they would go after the scammer. I'd love to know that they got what was coming to them
