OP, I know you said you've been all over the paypalsucks site, but I want to bring this to your attention as well as to HarperCassidy's:

http://paypalsucks.com/PayPalFormerEmployee1.shtml

It answers a lot of our questions. About why being a good customer means nothing. And also addresses what we have suspected about dishonest employees. It's why I will NEVER give them my SSN if they ever require me to confirm my identity. They can't legally ask for it (they are not a banking institution). I would instead close my PP account.
I am not shocked at all by this story...........not one bit. Maybe I will email this person........

According to the supervisor, they said they only need one piece of paper from a "verifiable" source that the bag is not authentic. They would not even LISTEN to me when I explained she could have submitted a fake bag!

He just kept repeating that they only could go by what the buyer submitted......they just won't LISTEN to anything!

Have they told you who the "verifiable" source is in this case, or is that another one of those facts they won't release without subpoena?

What is funny is that I DID have a legal firm complete a statement of authenticity on my bag and PP NEVER called or contacted them to make sure they were "verifiable." I have been in contact with the authenticator and she said PP never even contacted her.

So, I would not be surprised if the buyer had some cockamamie letter of "non-authenticity" for my bag sent to PP. They obviously verify NOTHING!

They refused to tell me the buyer's "proof" and just stole my money from me because they can.

OP, I think bittymonkey's draft letter to you was brilliant, with one exception. Don't give them 30 days. Send the letter and file suit. Get them served (service of process may be difficult you'll need their registered agent).

That should be at the Secretary of State for CA.

You can always pull the suit, but filing and serving them keeps the heat on. Make sure the local papers/media get a copy of the suit.

:wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf: Wow. Scarier than I originally thought...

Exactly. As per the link that I posted above, a former manager says PP gets threatened with lawsuits all the time and even receive threatening letters from lawyers and they know that nothing will happen with it. It takes actually filing the suit to make a difference.

The letter is an attempt to give them 30 days to pay her back. If OP doesn't have to waste money on an attorney, seems to me waiting 30 days for a response is worth it.

Missed that. I would still ask the attorney whether you should send it with 30 days. Sometimes you have to prove you tried to resolve the situation through all channels.

Do you think I should write anything about going public with what they have done? I mean, it would be a shock to the senses of most people if they saw it on a blog or the consumerist, etc.

I would talk to your attorney first. You don't want to undermine your case.

If you end up not being able to pursue a lawsuit, yes, a blog blast is in order.

I am still waiting to hear back from the atty. ITA about the blog blast if a suit does not work. I will launch a full nuclear paypal attack via the Internet.
