Kristie, I read the entire thread and am really sorry you are going through this. Scammers are on the list of worst scum of the earth!

What I don't understand is that you have had many requests to post her ebay ID and have not done that yet. Is there a reason you are withholding this important information?

WOW. I'm in total SHOCK and feel sick when I read all these posts!!!

Kristie - I am so sorry this has happened to you and I pray that your money will somehow be returned. Reading about your nightmare has me worried because I was planning on listing my Balenciaga bag collection on eBay and now I'm totally scared and confused as to what to do!!! I need to sell them off, but how can I go about selling them and not get screwed over by Paypal as well???

I haven't been on tPF in a while (had to take a break from lusting. ), so can anyone direct me to where I can read on how to best protect myself? Thanks in advance for any help! :smile1:

Again, I'm sorry this is happening to you, Kristie...

I am waiting to speak with an attorney until I post her ID. I do not want to potentially jeopardize anything. Additionally, since she was a 0 FB scamming buyer, I am sure she uses a boatload of different ID's on Ebay so it would be moot point KWIM? I get the feeling this was not her first rodeo so to speak.

OP buyer is a zero feedback on eBay anyway (and this transaction is outside eBay) no history that one can check. And if she/he will start to scam again I believe she/he will use another ID. And I almost sure she/he has many IDs.

Good idea...but when you are ready the tPF detectives will be on this scammer's case.
She can run but she can't hide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP can you at least let us know where in Canada she is and describe the bag? we can then help you watch out on local sites, ie craigslist, kijiji, used etc.... for the bag if she attempts a resale. I don't think you are jeopardizing your case by telling us where in canada you sent it to ie toronto, calgary, vancouver etc. or at least the province. There are alot of us Canadian TPFers who get really annoyed by people like this, as we know it makes it even more difficult for us to legitimately buy bags from the US as sellers don't want to ship out of the country for these reasons. As a result, I am sure I speak for quite a few of us that we would be happy to monitor the reseller sites in this scammer's area to see if this bag pops up. So if you can tell us what city, or at least what province, we can see if we can help!

Agreed. I would be more than happy to keep my eyes open in case it turns up on craigslist or kijiji.

I'm sorry you got scammed OP and I hope you're able to get some justice, but if you intend to keep selling on Ebay, you can not refuse to accept Paypal unless you have your own merchant account. Otherwise you will be suspended if a buyer reports you for refusing to accept Paypal. Sorry.

Paypal is no longer the ONLY form of payment accepted on Ebay. You absolutey CAN refuse to accept Paypal. After losing a lawsuit in Australia, Ebay now accepts several other companies, and provides Buyer Protection! (from Ebay site): (note who is first, of course!)

For most categories, sellers need to offer one or more of the following electronic payment choices:
  • PayPal
  • ProPay
  • Moneybookers
  • Paymate
  • Credit card or debit card processed through the seller's Internet merchant account
I sell on Ebay and have been using Moneybookers since January. I even offer free shipping if they pay with Moneybookers. The only problem has been convincing the brainwashed Ebay buyers to use anything NEW.....

kristie-I'm so sorry this happened...but with 0 feedback and in a different country, why on earth did you do a transaction outside of ebay like that (for that much $$ too)? as soon as I read it, my "red flag radar" started going off. sending you good vibes that you get your $$ back!

When this transaction went off ebay, the buyers zero feedback score and the sellers reputation were out the window. By taking the transaction off ebay, the seller and buyer were put on equal footing, unfortunately.

Perhaps so, but the problem is most people have never heard of any of those and so requiring those instead of Paypal may turn a lot of buyers off. I don't think your name calling was necessary. It's not "brainwashing" its that people will always want to use what's familiar to them and what they know has worked in the past, esp. where their money/financial info is concerned. It would be better if Ebay allowed Google Checkout instead of a list of generic payment methods few have ever heard of before as GC is a lot more well known and familiar to people.

Ok, a few things. If you are going to continue to sell, you must know that moneybookers etc. will do the same thing as paypal. They may be a bit better than paypal but you have to know that if a scammer is out there to scam you , there is still a possibility they can get away with it. The only way to protect yourself is by doing wires, checks, money orders. The problem with that is that ebay has honest buyers thinking that paypal is really the only way to go. This is because they get a cut of paypal.
Also , I tried to get records from paypal when i was being scammed. I wanted to see what this person was saying to them. They WOULD NOT release them. Even with all of the necessary legal documents. I don't know if that has changed but they held on to those documents, firmly.
I honestly think that you need to do some of your own PI work. Right now you need to type her address into google and locate each and every consignment store within 20 miles from it. Maybe more. Call each and everyone with the description , stamp etc. This is robbery and you can bet he/she will be selling the evidence, probably not on the internet. Last, I am new to the forum , but have seen what the members here can find out within days , and I would take full use of that. The more that you know about this person , the more it will help you. It is not illegal to do your own research when someone robs you.
