Viviscal vitamins for hair

I had the same exact problem! There is a high level of kelp/iodine in Viviscal, which can be great for hair but it also widely known to cause cystic acne and breakouts, which I experienced in a very bad way. Many hair supplements contain these ingredients so I've been carefully looking for one without them. May I ask why you are having scalp injections? Is it for severe hair loss or just to promote hair growth...?

The injections promote hair growth (may hair has gotten so then over the past year). I was doing so well with both the injections and the viviscal. I can't take biotin because it breaks me out. Viviscal had a low dosage of biotin, so that is why it worked for me and had no issues with my skin. They must have added something else to the formula, because my skin went crazy. I took it for 5 months with no problems and then starting in November, my skin went bonkers. I didn't keep the old box, I used to compare, but as I mentioned, I found out on the internet, there is a maximum strength and extra strength. Their customer service agent swore to me, there was no way I could have taken the maximum strength, because they haven't made it for years.

I spoke to my dermatologist before I went on vacation a few weeks ago, and she said try taking them every other day. I also have looked for hair pills with low biotin that actually work and can't seem to find any.

Ok. I suffer from the same issues so can feel your pain. Have you considered seeing an endocrinologist? From my experience, a dermatologist can only do so much, and hair loss tends to be caused by a hormonal imbalance.

I also found out from my regular doctor after my year end check-up blood work, I have way to much iron in my body (has to have been from the viviscal).

Have a new dermatologist who has done WONDERS for my skin, so now I am tackling my hair with him. He wants me to go back on Viviscal and I expressed my iron was really high the last time. He does not believe it was the viviscal and wants me to start it again.

Day 8 and no breakouts. Shedding has decreased. Also taking GNV vitamins and GNC hair gummies.

Sadly I'm going to stop taking these. I think they are the cause for my insomnia that has started about 2 weeks ago. It says insomnia is a side effect and it's the only new things I've taken lately. I'm guessing it might be the iron in it? Once Flinestone kids vitamins with iron also gave me horrible insomnia. I stopped taking them and it went away. I just stopped taking the Viviscal today though so I'll report back if this insomnia funk goes away.

However I was just finishing up my second month and these pills definitely made my nails grow quickly and strong too. I also do see a lot of baby hairs growing in around my hairline too. Seems too soon but I do see a bunch.

Hi Kirsten, I know this post is from years ago, but I stopped taking Viviscal nearly 3 weeks ago and I'm still experiencing the insomnia. How long did it take for you to get better? Thanks!
