Would anyone have a vintage Quincy #9919 they can compare to Willis #9927? Comp, packed, and mod shot (if comfortable!) I can only see Coach’s recent updated turnlock #2905 and that seems much smaller?

It’s SO hard to figure out the size of these bags. This thread is brilliant and has been extremely helpful!

Hi! New here, recently found tPF while researching vintage Willis. Found one, love it, but cannot for the life of me determine it’s black or navy.

Does anyone have a Basic they can compare with a Companion #9300? I just bought a Companion, but really like the Basic. Not 100% sold on the split front pocket, but it was $20 and gateway to see how I like this style. Would love to see with something inside for reference and a mod shot if willing.

And any recs for a others that have a top zip and that boxy, east-west shape? This group has the best info! I literally just read all 36 pages here, so good!
Hi and welcome! Regarding the black/navy question, I see Hyacinth answered after this post and I agree with her assessment of black. I was curious of the date and saw it on AT. By that time that bag was made, the navy was just blue enough that a good pic would show it. And fortunately, I thing the pic posted are good enough. When bags were made before '93, the black and navy are incredibly difficult to tell apart by most photos taken by sellers. And in real life, too!

Thanks, so happy to be here!

So, likely black due to the date (G040 = 2004?) and it’s just faded. That color before ‘93 bit is interesting, I wonder if Coach changed the dye recipe or if it’s just a color stability thing. Regardless, I never would have been able to figure that out. I really appreciate you looking and sharing that knowledge!

I didn’t see Hyacinth’s post. Did I miss it?

Thanks! Ok, going to take the plunge this week using these recs. Oh, and I decided to mend first just in case.

(Double-posted as I messed up replying. Newbie, whoops!)

No worries. When I started posting my cursor would jump all over and my reply would end up being in the post I was replying to  Since we can’t delete posts, there is another option to delete a post, by editing it shortly after you post. It is a short window of time, maybe an hour or two. You do have to leave some character there in the post. That is why you will see posts with deleted, NM, a period or emoti.

Hy’s comment was in the AT thread.

Thanks for the support and the helpful tips. I design/develop websites, you’d think this would be easier for me.

Going to AT now :flowers:

I mistakenly bought two navy Willises while trying to buy a black one. Then when I rehomed one of the navy ones I was packing it up to ship it and I thought I had accidentally grabbed my black one. I had to delay shipping by one day so I could take it back home to compare it with a black bag to make sure it was really a navy bag. It was. I found that it helps to compare to a black bag or to look at the fabric around the zipper to see if it looks navy or black. But that's not really a fail safe either, I did end up with two navy bags after all.

ETA: I think I responded to the wrong post but I'm just going to leave this here anyway. Sorry!

The Brighton Bag is a nice zip top east west:

Nope, this was me!

Oh no about your mix-up, but that’s so funny! Oddly enough, I love my bag, but I between black and navy, I actually might prefer navy.

Comparing to something else black is a good idea. The general consensus here is black, so I guess I have a black Willis.

The first Willis I saw was a bottle green one 3 winter’s ago. Love at first site. I’m still looking for an affordable one!

You know I do have a Companion and a Basic bag! Let me know if you still would like the comp shot.
