Oh check out this duffle!! Never seen one like this before!!

It's the earliest version of the #9085 Duffle Sac (riveted on buckle tabs, vertical seams aligned w/ buckles, no inside slip pocket, finished lower seam). Probably 1971 due to the metal tag. I have two examples of this design configuration; a mocha one with an exterior metal tag, and an unusual color green one with an exterior cartouche imprint.

What makes the current PM listing interesting (to me at least) is the piped lower seam. The two that I have have finished edges (no piping). Will share that leather and workmanship issues on these early Duffle Sacs is not uncommon as both of mine required seam repairs and the mocha one a full replacement of the upper edge binding (a chore that I wouldn"t recommend anyone except the most determined undertake given how the two separate pieces of binding terminate at both of the vertical seams).

ETA: That same piping was also used on the Mailbox bag that too was released in 1971. Similar cracking issues as those seen in this listing's photos were a problem in that application, albeit it to a lesser degree (probably due to the straight edge geometry of that style).

I only see curled back leather on both sides of the pipings. Is that what you're referring to?

It looks gray in the photos. It almost looks like some kind of interfacing. I guess it could be the back of the leather, but it looks different on the inside next to the zipper than on the outside.

It may be interesting to see who grabbed this one up. Given the piping issues around the lower seam, IMHO it really only has historic value. If some flipper bought it on spec, then I suspect we'll see it again at a much inflated price. If a collector snatched it up, I applaud them on obtaining a piece of history at an attractive price.

It wasn't me. [emoji4] I had one of the early shoulder bags that had plastic piping. I didn't realize it was plastic till I got it and wasn't a fan upon discovery. I sold it last year for less than $100. It was fully lined with the striped fabric though.

Love this two-toned 4414. Finding it hard to decide if I'd prefer this over the navy 4414 I've been eyeing. I already have bags in a similar shape and brown color, but I've fallen for the "rarity" trap of the two-toned look. However, it would be way more practical to add a navy bag in my collection, and I think I would use the navy more too…

It is beautiful! And not very expensive at this point. This brown color is so classic and the two-tone is subtle. Normally I'm drawn to two-tone bags and try to talk myself out of them because they are harder to coordinate with my clothing.

Hello! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!! I'm looking for some advice on how to carry a crosbody drawstring bag. I have a 9952 (Lula/Lulu?) that I acquired a few years ago and while I love that bag - it's the bag that introduced me to vintage coach bags altogether! - i find that the drawstring closure always pops open when I'm carrying it. I don't want to tie the strings together when I'm using it so I'm wondering if there are some clever ways of carrying the bag that I haven't thought about. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!!

It shouldn't pop open normally. It has probably just gotten stretched out. I think it might be easy to put a butterfly clip on it to keep it closed. You could try to sew the keeper down the middle, a little to the sides of the original stitching, to make it a little tighter, but I think that would be challenging.

Thanks for the quick reply whateve!
Sewing the keeper might be a bit beyond my skill set at this time but I'm not sure what you mean by using a butterfly clip. Do you mean I should use the clip on the keeper to prevent it from sliding?
I should add that the bag only pops open if I'm carrying a lot. If the bag is very lightly loaded that's not usually a problem. But then again this is a medium size bag so even when I try to not put too much in it things just find their way into the bag!

Yes I was thinking about putting the clip on the keeper. I've never tried it. Every time I had a drawstring that didn't stay closed or was hard to use, I ended up selling the bag.
