Belicious, here's one of my duffles like the one you just won, and it's among my favorite Vintage Coach bags. It's weightless, compared to later models, which I love. It stains easily, and permanently, since the leather is naked. Every blue moon, I clean it. But mainly, I simply carry it. I hope you will be able to think of the stains in yours as character marks, indeed, as part of the bag's rich history.
That is a stunning bag. Patina is a wonderful thing :) It's beautiful.

It's an early version of the #9085 Duffle Sac introduced in 1971. The initial releases had metal tags and this rendition (with the riveted on buckle tabs, finished lower seam, and no interior slip pocket) was only made for a couple of years. It was replaced by the next evolution (with sewn on buckle tabs, bound lower seam, vertical seams located midpanel to the buckles and zipper, and a interior slip pocket) that was made from the pre-creed period through the latter half of the 1970s (creed/no number). That design was subsequently superseded by the modern version of the duffle sac that we're all familiar with (integrated roll-over buckle tabs with two rivers, vertical seams aligned with the buckles and zipper).

IMO, you paid a fair price given its condition (obvious stains). Even though this is a lighter colored bag, check the upper edge binding carefully as the cracking is a known issue (especially on darker colored bags from this era for reasons that are not readily apparent). Also inspect the vertical seams as torn threads/missing stitching is also a recurring problem.

Good luck cleaning this one up. It should make for a nice project

Got her today and couldn't wait to give her a bath. Actually shes really clean so it doesn't surprise me that the marks didn't come out on the bottom. Possibly previous owner has tried bathing her before. However, as they are mostly on the bottom maybe they won't bother me at all once she has her shape back. The bag is structurally sound on all the seems and the leather seems only a little bit dry. Bit of a mothball smell but I think that should fade easily with airing. Happy overall. Yay!

It came with a tiny bag with a booklet. I'm thinking I will put it in a frame. Also there is what looks like an eraser. Wth is that? Is that meant to be with it?

What does the eraser look like? Could it be a suede eraser? I have a couple of those tiny bags with booklets. There could be a date on the booklet. On mine, there is a 4 digit number on the front of the booklet. I think it stands for 2 digits for the year, 2 digits for the month.

I don't see any number on the booklet. Too bad, that would be cool! I just read the booklet and there is mention of using a gum eraser to erase scratches or stains from the bag. I guess that's what it is? It would be kinda funny if it really is an almost 50 year old eraser. I can imagine it will crumble if I try to use it. It doesn't look like it was ever used.

ETA there is a picture with the eraser in it in the last picture of the ebay listing:

We are all used to sellers that are inaccurate about names, style numbers, general history or time frame of production for Coach they are selling. Thank goodness for our authenticators and knowledgable posters here, right?
This one takes the cake. I have never seen so much inaccuracy in a single listing. Also on Mercari.

lol!

I recently bought a 2001 Costa Rica 9714. Not vintage, but humor me here. Pardon my ignorance, but what is the attachment?

The attachment is called a clochette, or key bell. The are on bags that have locks, usually little keys are held inside. Bags without locks still have them as decoration sometimes, and might just have a key ring inside instead. This one looks like someone attached their own charm to the key ring.

This 9714 is currently on eBay with a like attachment. They are original? Or just a coincidence in matching color?
Are you referring to the key leash or the golf club charm attached to the key leash?

ETA: I see that @rkiz beat me to the submit key (and provided a much more accurate and academic response to boot. Touche!).
